Bozeman Health Lab Coordinator - Big Sky Medical Center (FT- 0.9 FTE) in Big Sky, Montana

This is the Lab Coordinator position at Big Sky Medical Center. The position is a full time 0.9 FTE position. The schedule is 3 12-hour shifts per week. Mostly days (0700-1930), occasional nights. Rotating weekends and holidays. This position receives a $7/hr shift differential for shifts worked at Big Sky Medical Center.

Position Summary:

Serves as a lab section lead responsible for the adherence to accreditation standards and regulations. The CLS Technical Coordinator collects, evaluates and reports quality control data, calibration data, proficiency testing and instrument maintenance records. Trains, coaches and evaluates staff competency. Oversees maintenance, calibration and quality control in a wide variety of clinical laboratory settings. Performs analysis on blood and other body fluids. Reviews and analyzes data from calibration, quality control and patient testing. Testing will include that defined as "waived", "moderately complex" and "highly complex". Treats health care providers, patients and co-workers professionally with an eye towards achieving a high level of customer service and satisfaction. Manages supplies and inventory. Monitors workload, responding accordingly. Works with Lab Supervisor to implement and maintain accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, B.S. degree in a related science curriculum, or if licensed before 2010; related science curriculum or qualifications received sufficient to obtain Montana Licensure

  • Montana Licensure (Clinical Laboratory Scientist)

  • 2 years’ experience in a medical laboratory setting

  • Preferred: Supervisory experience

  • Preferred: Certified Clinical Lab Scientist, Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees and supervises Laboratory operations including maintenance of accreditation standards.

  • Performs manual and automated patient testing according to written procedures.

  • Stains and interprets blood smears of other biological specimens.

  • Validate and approve and enter results in the Laboratory Information System.

  • Calibrates and maintains laboratory instruments as well as troubleshoots and repairs instruments.

  • Prepares reagents and controls including assisting with developing new procedures.

  • Monitors results, quality control and instrument conditions, investigating outliers and deviations.

  • Coordinates training for new staff and new or modified procedures.

  • Evaluates QC data, calibration data, proficiency data and maintenance records; plans and makes recommendations for the technical development of the department.

  • Implements and validates new methods and instruments. Maintains departmental accreditation standards.

  • Manages the DOT/Employee drug screening program including the drug consortium.
