SMITH CATTLE COMPANY General Ranch Hand in BIG TIMBER, Montana

Temporary full time from 2/1/2024 - 11/30/2024 Itinerary: February/March: Fencing repair and construction ? prepare for calving. April/May: Calving cows June/July: Spraying weeds, putting up hay, yard maintenance August/September: Checking cattle, hauling hay, fencing Oct/November: Sorting, shipping cattle The General Ranch Hand position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of cattle and hay. Duties related to the production of livestock will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and night calving, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives; place mineral blocks; operate skid steer; herd livestock; confine livestock in stalls; clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds; dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock; maintain records on animals. Will be asked to work additional hours during peak Calving and Harvesting seasons. General farm work will include making minor mechanical adjustments/repairs on farm machinery; operate 4 wheel drive tractors for the working of farm ground for crops. The hay production season will require use of front wheel assist tractors, rakes, balers and draper swathers. General repair/replacement of fencing and farm structures; perform general cleanup of farm acreage; drive. Most duties are performed out of doors, and entail exposure to heat, cold, dust, rain and other environmental conditions common in fields. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Driver's license is required as worker will be required to drive to and from worksites in employer provided vehicle.
