CITY OF BILLINGS COMBINATION INSPECTOR I / II / III in BILLINGS, Montana

The City of Billings Building Division is seeking a Combination Inspector I / II / III to perform technical building inspection work involved in enforcing compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances.Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: review plans and applications for field inspections; inspection of buildings during various stages of construction and remodel, check plans for special conditions or requirements; receives and investigates complaints of building, plumbing, and mechanical code and ordinance violations or forwards complaint to the appropriate personnel; inspects buildings for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable codes and ordinances; coordinates inspections activities with other city departments and ensures all departments' requirements are met before issuing certificate of occupancy and approve the issuance of building, plumbing, and mechanical occupancy permits, compute permits and issue permits.Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Starting Salary Range: Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education and experience. (This salary range reflects steps 1 and 6 of a 7 step pay scale.) Excellent benefits are provided.- Combination Inspector I: $19.88 - $25.39 per hour.- Combination Inspector II: $23.32 - $29.77 per hour.- Combination Inspector III: $25.01 - $31.91 per hour.Minimum Qualifications for Combination Inspector I:- High school diploma or equivalent.- Two (2) years of specialized training or work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or related field.- Must obtain one certification as a Building, Plumbing, Electrical, or Mechanical Inspector within six (6) months of employment.- Must have a valid Montana driver's license or must obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.Minimum Qualifications for Combination Inspector II:- Two (2) or more years of specialized training in the building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical field.- Four (4) years of related work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or a related field including two (2) years' experience in business inspection.- Must possess three (3) certifications as a Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical Inspector.- Must have a valid Montana driver's license or must obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.Minimum Qualifications for Combination Inspector III:- Three (3) or more years of specialized training in the building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical field.- Five (5) years of related work experience in construction, building trades, code enforcement, or a related field including three (3) years' experience in business inspection.- Must possess Building, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Inspector certifications.- Must have a valid Montana driver's license or must obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.Equal Opportunity Employer.
