Primary Responsibilities

Our Power Delivery team is seeking an Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) Engineering Project Manager (EPM) to join our nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals. Similar industry titles may include Alternative Delivery Engineering Project Manager, or Design-Build Engineering Project Manager.

The primary duties of the EPM are to serve as a project manager for the engineering component of EPC substation and transmission projects up to 500kV, where HDR is a subcontractor/teaming partner to a construction contractor, who holds a Prime EPC contract with the Owner. Substation and transmission line projects could be in the public/private utility or renewable/industrial private development space and are likely to include green field or brown field projects and/or bundled upgrade programs, but could include other scopes of work.

Specific duties of the EPM include:

Serves as a key client contact and engineering project manager on EPC projects and is responsible for supporting opportunity/client development, leading proposal development, and managing execution of the engineering portion of the project.

Responsible for proposal development, including scope in Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) format, budget, and schedule.

Understanding and application of basic project management tools and techniques including the following: project life cycle, client goals and objectives, contract terms and project risk, work breakdown structures, project scope/schedule/budget, project initiation, project planning, financial management and controls, including earned value, internal/external communication, team management, change management, risk management, and project closeout.

Responsible for interfacing with and being responsive to construction teaming partners throughout the development, pursuit, and execution phases.

Understands the PM nuances of working for a contractor and has experience assessing and managing contract risk from the contractor and flow down risk from the Owner.

Responsible for engineering support of material/equipment procurement and construction efforts during proposal and execution phase, depending on the scope and client requirements.

Responsible for managing a team of multi-discipline engineers for various EPC Power Delivery project (focused mainly on substations and transmission lines).

May also be responsible for overseeing non-engineering components of projects, including public involvement, environmental permitting and compliance, right of way acquisition, construction management, and other services.

May also be responsible to be a PM for some traditional engineering only projects in a design-bid-build delivery model.

Leads the QA/QC process on EPC projects and is committed to delivering world class quality.

Represents HDR to support marketing and proposal development for EPC opportunities.

May supervise staff and/or serve as a mentor for junior EPM's.

Some travel for business development and execution may be required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BSEE, BSCE, BSME or related degree required, BSEE preferred

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or Engineer In Training (EIT) and active commitment to obtain P.E. preferred.
5+ years of experience in substation design up to 500kV preferred.
3+ years of traditional design-bid-build PM experience preferred.
1+ years of EPC engineering PM experience preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) or ability to obtain is desired.
Experience reviewing EPC contract terms and managing scope change.
Strong desire to lead project teams.
Strong client and project management skills required.
Strong conflict management and negotiation skills.
Proactive, responsive, and clear communicator.
Critical thinker.
Ideal candidate will have EPC project development, business development and engineering execution experience.
