First Interstate BancSystem Financial Reporting Manager in Billings, Montana

SUMMARY
The Financial Reporting Manager is an integral member of the Financial Reporting team and reports to the Controller. This position is heavily involved in external SEC reporting and financial statement generation, external reporting to other key stakeholders, SOX controls, internal reporting to executive management, and assisting in the research of accounting issues. This position requires the ability to work across the organization, interacting with other finance, accounting, and operations personnel to identify and resolve accounting and financial reporting-related issues. This position presents complex financial analysis to Senior Management, Regulators and the Board of Directors and must be able to effectively communicate the key assumptions, findings, and business implications of the results as well as progress and risks to the program. This position needs to be prepared to handle changing priorities and heavy workloads during periods of intense activity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.

Preparation of external financial statements, footnotes and MD&A for SEC reports including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and more, in compliance with GAAP and SEC rules and regulations.

Supporting relationships and requirements with internal and external auditors by preparing and providing complete documentation and explanation for various transaction types.

Assist in the preparation and analysis of annual goodwill and intangible asset impairment testing.

Provide support for detailed tie-outs of financial statements as well as internal and external presentations used for investor conferences, among others.

Assist in the preparation of ad-hoc requests for analyses and information.

Assist in the research of accounting issues, evaluating new accounting standards, drafting accounting footnotes, and memos.

Develop key governance and policy documents.

Deliver actionable information and recommendations that provide guidance and education on regulatory and internal expectations of various groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Finance or Accounting and 6+ years of experience in accounting and finance, including public accounting and/or SEC reporting, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA required. Strong technical accounting and SEC knowledge preferred. Wdesk experience preferred. Experience in a management role required.

OTHER SKILLS
Proven ability to drive large projects to completion and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented and able to organize and prioritize workload. Solid verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work individually as well as in a team environment. Proficiency in Word and Excel.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, legal documents, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and respond to common inquiries or complaints from bank customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Applies oral and written communication in a clear and concise manner. Uses effective communication skills in working with co-workers and internal customers. Influences others with clear explanations of facts and ideas.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Identify problems and develop solutions. Exhibit sound and accurate judgment. Demonstrate common sense and logic in day-to-day activities. Demonstrate original thinking and willingness to make decisions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally stand, walk, stoop, knee, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
