Your day.

As an Infection Control Specialist you need to know how to:

Review patient records, microbiology cultures, chemistry reports, and admission data as sources for identifying infections

Conduct patient care area rounds as necessary to identify case findings and environmental issues

Initiate epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infection or serious communicable disease concern

Review and recommend new or revised practices or procedures based on currently accepted, evidence-based infection prevention and control strategies, current scientific literature, regulations, standards and/or guidelines of applicable professional organizations and government agencies

Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and requirements including CMS, The Joint Commission, state and local health departments, and other publicly reported indicators

Maintain current information and regulatory requirements on infection prevention, control and epidemiology in order to disseminate accordingly to processes and customers

Identify, recommend and/or lead organizational change opportunities for improvement based on indicators, process or outcome measures, other findings and/or observations

Your experience.

We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:

Current license to practice nursing in the state of Montana or Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Public Health, or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and/or Epidemiology, Microbiology, Public Health, Environmental Health or similar degree, required.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in acute care hospital or health system, required.

Completion of NHSN Surveillance Courses or completion within six (6) months of hire, required.

Demonstrated knowledge of microbiology, laboratory procedures, aseptic technique and epidemiological techniques, required.

Ability to comprehend and utilize epidemiological/public health data and statistical methods, required.

Certification in Infection Control & Epidemiology (CIC) within two (2) years of hire, preferred.

At least two (2) years of Infection Control experience, preferred.
