Billings Clinic OR Surgical Aide (0.5) in Billings, Montana

In accordance with established policies and procedures, provides support services within the Surgery Center. Assists with preparation and cleaning of supplies, instruments, and equipment; ordering and stocking of supplies and transporting, transferring and positioning patients. Essential Job Functions • Provides support to other members of the team by obtaining and maintaining supplies, instruments, equipment, pharmaceuticals (excludes narcotics), positioning accessories, cleaning and processing instruments, scopes and equipment. • Ensures appropriate cleaning procedures are maintained and followed. Cleans and maintains autoclaves, warmers, refrigerators. • Assists with transporting, transferring and positioning patients. • Performs errands to other departments as needed: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, etc. • Obtains and records pre and post operative vital signs. Charts and documents in medical record according to protocol • Demonstrate ability to maintain appropriate monitoring records for process improvement and quality controls as assigned. Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality. • Participates in orientation, training and/or precepting of new staff. • Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory system and departmental requirements. • Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Basic anatomy and medical terminology • Basic surgical equipment, instruments, scopes and supplies • Infection control and use of personal protective equipment • Appropriate methods of decontamination • Equipment operation and function monitoring • Appropriate care and handling of sterile supplies • Personal computers • AAMI Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) & IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management ) standards, recommended practices and guidelines • Basic knowledge of safe pharmaceutical handling requirements and guidelines • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with staff and physicians • Following verbal and written instructions • Prepare case cart and room set up • Providing support to other members of the team by obtaining and maintaining supplies, instruments, equipment, pharmaceuticals (excludes narcotics), positioning accessories, cleaning and processing instruments, scopes and equipment • Ensuring appropriate cleaning procedures are maintained and followed • Transporting, transferring and/or positioning patients • Analytical skills necessary to understand a variety of problems and troubleshooting scenarios • Applying safe pharmaceutical handling requirements and guidelines • Incorporate population specific needs into all aspects of communication and patient care • Respond calmly and effectively in emergency or difficult situations • Communicate clearly and effectively • Walk and stand 90% of the time • Push, pull carts and equipment • Lift and position patients; ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted • Simple to moderate complexity requires ability to prioritize with assistance of nursing personnel • Six (6) weeks orientation on case picks required under the preceptor supervision to ensure checks for quality and accuracy • Oversight for safe pharmaceutical handling requirements is provided by the nursing and physician staff Minimum Qualifications Education • High School Diploma or GED Certifications and Licenses • CPR Certification
