Humana Senior Business Intelligence Engineer in Billings, Montana


The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer solves complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.


Senior Business Intelligence Engineer of Humana Smart Insights has high technical skills, a profound, end-to-end understanding of the Group Segment's customer and broker reporting capability, and is responsible for knowledge management within Humana's internal constituents. This person serves as a subject matter expert for the standard reporting and analytics capabilities, as well as insight to expansive capabilities available internally or through the vendor (Deerwalk) to support ad hoc / tailored business or customer needs. The Super User ensures that the reporting and analytic capabilities meet the expectations of both management and end users, that potential issues are identified and corrected prior to the launch, and if issues arise, the Super User acts quickly to correct with a high sense of urgency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sales Training, Sales Champions and Experience Lead to train internal and external stakeholders on how to use the tool

  • Provide general reporting and analytics guidance and support to internal and external users

  • Provide support on in-depth analytics to sales and other internal team members, engage with customers and brokers when needed

  • Serve as reporting analytics subject-matter expert on cross-functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities

  • Collaborate with other Humana Smart Insights team members to develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements

  • Lead ongoing evaluation of accuracy and usability with formally established and comprehensive policies and processes, providing feedback to internal stakeholders and partners

  • Provide business sign-off that monthly releases are accurate and approved for use by the stakeholders

  • Participate in IT system testing to ensure system requirements were met

  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and provide sign-off for new capabilities

  • Collaborate with IT to trouble shoot and resolve system defects and issues as identified by the stakeholders

  • Collaborate with Experience Lead to obtain or provide approval for changes to rules, processes and policies

  • Lead development of system requirements needed for IT design and development

  • Contributes to the build out of the Humana Smart Insights team; continuously evaluating opportunities to address and contribute to the evolving needs of the business

  • Collaborate with the Group Sales Enablement team and Group Segment as a whole to ensure that the work of the team is cohesive, prioritized and meets the needs and goals of the business

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5+ Years of technical experience in data analysis

  • 3 or more years of data analytics experience

  • Advanced experience working with big and complex data sets within large organizations

  • Proficiency in understanding Healthcare related data

  • Proficiency in compiling, analyzing and interpreting healthcare related data trends

  • Advanced knowledge of data, modeling, and optimization tools

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on sales and continuously improving consumer experiences that translate to better outcomes

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, previous experience presenting and interacting with executive leadership

  • Flexible, dynamic personality with a demonstrated ability to lead and influence others without authority while contributing individually

  • Advanced Degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field

  • Advanced in SQL, SAS and other data systems

  • Experience with tools such as Tableau and Qlik for creating data visualizations

  • Expertise in data mining, forecasting, simulation, and/or predictive modeling

  • Experience creating analytics solutions for various healthcare sectors
