Indian Health Service Supervisory Environmental Engineer in Billings, Montana

Summary This position is that of Environmental Engineer for the Billings Area Office of Environmental Health and Engineering, Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction, Indian Health Service, located in Billings, MT. Responsibilities Perform all engineering tasks required for the design of individual and community sanitation facilities including water supply and distribution, sewage collection and treatment, and solid waste collection and disposal methods. Performs site visits to obtain information such as condition of systems, location of sewer mains, local water pressures, plumbing layouts, etc., investigates malfunctioning water and sewer system components and makes preliminary diagnosis. Performs duties concerned with the administration of contracts for sanitation facility construction, ensuring that actual construction complies with designs and specifications and safety requirements. Provides technical direction to Construction Control Inspectors, including scheduling of work assignments, review and approval of work, performance evaluation, leave approval, identifying and recommending training requests, etc. Knowledge of professional environmental engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the full range of engineering duties concerned with the design and layout of domestic waste treatment facilities, pumping stations, sewer systems, and water supply, distribution, and storage facilities. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Review this following link for education requirements for this position: all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf (opm.gov) In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-11: Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree and/or Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Engineering design including but not limited to sewage collection and treatment facilities, lagoons, water well and pump house systems, booster systems, water treatment facilities, water storage and distribution systems, and solid waste collection and disposal facilities. Reviewing project engineer designs, preparing engineering reports, completing environmental assessments and feasibility studies, construction specifications and drawings. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
