DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: / Primary: // / The Special Needs Unit (SNU) provides 24-hour nursing coverage for the medical management of offenders. /Secondary/: The MSP Infirmary Unit provides 24-hour nursing coverage for the medical management of 1400 offenders. Medical management includes Medical management includes: initial screening/assessment, triage and appropriate referral, daily nursing care, medication administration, med-surgical, psych, urgent/emergent, continuous quality improvement, chronic care, infection control, and discharge planning. The purpose of this position is to assist in the overall patient management, direction of nursing services, staff development, and Continuious Quality Improvement. The position supervises a staff of Registered and Licensed Practical nurses, Correctional Health Care Technicians and support staff. The Assistant Director of Nursing has the authority to make decisions regarding standard operating procedures, the nursing/staff development program, as well as the authority to make most decisions which pertain to personnel utilization. Quality improvement is a process of ongoing monitoring and evaluation to assess the adequacy and appropriateness of the care provided and to institute corrective action as needed through a system of continual improvement of processes through design and redesign. The CQI program assists in reducing professional and general liability risks and minimizes poor clinical outcomes and reduce legal liabilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Registered Nurse: A college degree in Registered Nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the sate of Montana is required. A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a medical setting. Experience in a correctional setting is preferred.
