Position Details
General Statement
The WWAMI Medical Education Program provides education at MSU Bozeman for first and second year medical students in partnership with the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Duties and Responsibilities
Meet with all first-year medical students to determine their current learning strategies and help them adapt these to the demands of medical school. This may involve:
Time management
Efficient previewing and reviewing of information
Encoding and memory techniques
Flipped classroom techniques
Test-taking strategies, including managing test anxiety
Stress management
Step 1 Licensing Exam Prep
Meet with all second-year students to develop a study plan for the Step 1 Licensing Exam
Stay current with latest Step 1 exam prep resources
Be available extra hours during January, February, March to advise students.
With all students:
Monitor grades on weekly or biweekly tests; reach out as necessary.
Provide referrals to meet with faculty, tutors, mental health counseling, medical consultants, disability services, and career advising as needed
Give 6 presentations/year to students on academic skills, preparing for board exams, resources, timelines for completion.
Participate in faculty meetings to stay updated on curriculum changes; and to update others on current trends, available services, and resources.
Participate in student progress meetings with faculty at the end of each semester.
Attend monthly Academic Support Meetings with Learning Specialists at other WWAMI sites.
Attend professional development trainings
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Graduate degree in medicine, education, counseling, psychology or other related discipline
Experience advising students and/or teaching, preferably at the graduate or professional school level
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Advising or counseling experience
Teaching experience
Medical School Experience
Experience advising medical students or taking medical board exams
Doctoral degree in relevant discipline (e.g. medicine, education, counseling, etc.)
