The Montana Manufacturing Extension Center’s (MMEC’s) mission is to grow Montana’s economy by helping manufacturers succeed. We accomplish this goal by providing growth, innovation, efficiency, compliance and managerial assistance to Montana manufacturers for a fee. MMEC is an outreach of the College of Engineering at Montana State University. Field Offices are located in Bozeman, Billings, Helena, Great Falls, Kalispell and Missoula, and serve the entire state. This position may be based in Great Falls, Helena, Butte, or Billings, working independently from an office in one of our partner agencies. The territory will include the entire State of Montana.
Duties and Responsibilities
Sell and deliver growth, innovation, efficiency, compliance and managerial consulting services to Montana manufacturers.
Proactively visit (cold call) prospective and existing clients, assess clients’ needs, determine strategies and action plans resulting in written proposals for contracted services with manufacturers.
Provide consulting and training across the State of Montana to assist food manufacturers to comply with the requirements of the Food Safety and Modernization Act.
Write and review reports, track and report project progress and develop and manage third party delivery experts.
Develop appropriate educational materials and present public training workshops and seminars.
Prepare end of project survey tools and effectively assist clients in completing end-of-project surveys that result in significant economic impact.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated, significant experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility in improving manufacturing operations.
Experience in food manufacturing and/or food safety for manufacturing.
Demonstrated experience using computers in business, customer relationship management, project management, communications, and personal productivity.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or other relevant field from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing systems design, analysis and continuous improvement, manufacturing processes and equipment, lean manufacturing concepts, quality management systems, six sigma concepts, waste reduction, emission reduction, safety management, and product design as it relates to manufacturing.
Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited engineering program.
Master’s degree in Business from an accredited business school.
Relevant licensing or industry recognized certifications.
Experience in additive manufacturing, industrial marketing, plant management, technical sales or product development using Solid Works software.

Be a self-starter who can work independently to identify, sell (including cold calls), plan, organize, manage and execute projects.
Have excellent human relations skills, evidence of good judgment, flexibility and innovativeness to respond to the needs of a wide variety of clients.
Possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing including public presentations.
Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
Position will be based in Great Falls, Helena, Butte, or Billings, MT, and continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.
Position requires extensive travel by rental or own vehicle throughout the State of Montana, including frequent overnight stays.
Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points), or have other reliable means of transportation. Must have access to a vehicle to use for work (mileage will be reimbursed), and have minimum vehicle liability insurance. Do NOT send a copy of the driver’s license.
