Brief Position Overview

Join the Finance & Accounting Systems team in University Information Technology Administrative Services Group. The Computer Systems Analyst II for Accounts Receivable is the primary report writer and application developer in the team supporting all four MSU campuses, providing the Student Accounts staff with additional functionality, accuracy of data and enhanced future system features. This position will also be the back-up for the Finance/Accounting Computer Systems Analyst III.

General Statement

The Computer Systems Analyst II is a member of the Finance & Accounting Systems team within University Information Technology. This team provides support and systems services to departments and central offices on all four campuses, ensuring that appropriate decision support systems are functioning, interfaces with the State accounting systems function properly, and that the student accounts/financial users on all four campuses receive accurate, complete information with which to run their departments. The team provides programming support, information retrieval, and data delivery to the central financial & Student Accounts offices, developing more efficient ways of doing business by using new and existing applications. The team interacts closely with the University’s Information Technology Enterprise Systems Group to meet the needs of campus.

The Computer Systems Analyst II is the primary report writer and application developer in the team supporting all 4 MSU campus Student Accounts areas, providing the student AR accounting/finance staff with additional functionality, accuracy of data and enhanced future system features.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze diverse client needs and collaborate with end users to understand how they utilize AR finance/accounting systems and identify how to improve workflows and systems, reduce risks, increase controls and/or increase customer satisfaction and develop complex new data-processing systems to work with ERP (Banner) such as APEX, SQL, ARGOS, BURT, etc.

  • Collaborate with other analysts to maintain, develop and test complex software to help UBS users perform their tasks, e.g., test new patches for ERP system (Banner), develop new database applications, write scripts to identify problems in AR/finance areas, and investigate new ideas and strategies for AR/finance for a four campus environment. Design, create and maintain numerous reports for the AR finance/accounting systems.

  • Responsible for 1098T processing, printing, and pressure sealing for 4 campuses

  • Documentation of reports and process flows and create procedure manuals for areas of responsibility.

  • Share knowledge of processes and systems with other department staff, pursue cross-training responsibilities within the team.

  • Update job knowledge on an ongoing basis by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks and/or participating in professional organizations.

  • Provide computer hardware support, troubleshooting and problem resolution. Load software onto staff PCs.

  • Provide training and maintenance to various constituents on reports and applications

  • Computer system hardware ordering process and setup

  • Banner to SABHRS monitoring and error corrections when needed

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience programming in widely-used languages such as SQL*Plus, PL-SQL, and/or APEX

  • Experience with relational database technologies.

  • Experience with and proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite.

  • Experience in systems relating to finance, accounting and/or student data

  • Experience working with the operating systems used on the MSU campus including Linux and Windows Operating Systems.

  • Work experience requiring knowledge of Banner and Oracle technical architectures

  • Knowledge of Banner security/ralational database, SABHRS interface, and business services procedures

  • Experience with UC4/Appworx scheduling software
