Position Details
General Statement
Campus Recreation is responsible for the management and programming of all recreational facilities at Montana State University including the North Dome, Outdoor Recreation Building, and the Lambert Field Complex. Coming soon the department will add the brand new 185,000 square foot Student Wellness Center. All of these facilities are multi-purpose and meet the varied needs of the campus and the community. The department provides additional services for all Wellness Partners, Health and Human Development, as well as hosting many other events in the new SWC .
Duties and Responsibilities
Under direction of the Custodial Supervisor II, the lead custodian is a working custodian who provides direction for a crew of Custodian I’s and student workers that will be stationed in North Dome and coming soon – the brand new Student Wellness Center!
Assists with training of employees
Conducts nightly quality control inspections and reviews
Maintains good communication flow with management and coworkers
Verbally addresses performance problems, following up with management
Maintains work equipment and supply inventory
Scrubs, mops, washes, seals, disinfects and polishes hard surface floors
Vacuums and shampoos carpeted floors
Dusts and polishes furniture
Washes windows and mirrors
Polishes bathroom and shower fixtures
Empties trash receptacles to dumpsters
Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
Moves small fitness equipment
Handles commercial (industrial) cleaning chemicals
Prepares for and cleans up after special events
Promotes a safe work environment
Regularly performs nightly building checks and related security checks (locking of exterior doors, reporting of unusual circumstances and/or any building maintenance needs as necessary, etc)
May be reassigned to other areas as needed in order to maintain the cleanliness of all facilities
And actively contributes to the success of the department by performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
High school graduation or G.E.D. plus at least two years of full-time commercial and/or industrial custodial work or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience providing excellent customer service to a variety of individuals.
Experience leading, directing and/or training staff.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Graveyard/nighttime shift experience.
Experience enforcing building and security regulations.
Experience with special event preparations and/or clean up.
Certifications/Classes related to custodial, sanitation, building maintenance etc.
Experience using computers and various software packages.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
This position will primarily work Monday-Friday, 9 am – 6 pm, with occasional early morning, night and weekend work as needed
Must be able to substitute for other graveyard/nighttime shifts as the department event schedule changes
Will work evenings, weekends, long hours, consecutive days during busy periods, and occasional holidays as the school and event schedule demands
Will occasionally work outside and in inclement weather
