Position Details

General Statement

Culinary Services (CS), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals for over 12,000 customers. CS proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, 9 retail operations, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery & Salads, and the Farm to Campus Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Culinary Associate I/Dishwasher actively works in the preparation, production, and general service of food and beverage to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for students and other customers during their dining experience.

  • Positively and professionally interacts with customers

  • May be assigned to the dishroom, beverages, and or other operational areas

  • Ensures quality product is being served

  • Assists with monitoring inventory and keeping records

  • Assists with the cleaning, disposition and storage of foods, supplies, and equipment

  • Properly handles food in accordance with FDA food codes

  • Cleans areas and equipment in accordance with the sanitarian’s recommendations

  • And actively contributes to the team by performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic experience in a customer service or food industry position or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Experience successfully providing excellent front line customer service.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Dish room experience.

  • Prioritize and organize workload in order to complete tasks in a timely manner

  • Quickly adapt to changing priorities

  • Follow health and sanitation guidelines for food preparation and handling

  • Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with CS staff in a team-oriented environment

10month position. Eligible for full benefits 12months of the year. Shift is normally Tuesday – Saturday, 11am to 8pm. May change dependent on departmental need.

May occasionally work outside and in inclement weather assisting with special events.

Physical Demands

  • Normal kitchen, cooler, freezer, dock environments.

  • Standing and/or moving about for long periods of time.

  • Moving product up and down stairs.

  • Frequently moving and lifting containers/product weighing up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100lbs.

  • Bending and/or kneeling while stocking product.

  • Gripping handles on small kitchen utensils and other equipment.

  • Performing repetitive motions related to job duties.

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
