General Statement

The Employer & Industry Relations Manager advances relationships with new and current employer partners in order to drive outcomes to improve persistence, graduation rates and career prospects for MSU students. Using an entrepreneurial approach, the Employer Relations Manager synthesizes knowledge of the economy, labor markets and higher education to promote a comprehensive student employment, internship employment and full-time “Hire-A-Bobcat” program at Montana State University. As part of the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success the Career & Internship Services team collaborates closely with the efforts of the Office of Financial Education, Office of Return to Learn, and the Office of Student Success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the outreach, collaboration and communication efforts with both on- and off-campus employers, including but not limited to: households, local, on-campus, corporate, government and non-profit entities in order to develop a “pipeline” of employment opportunities at MSU .

  • Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive on-campus recruitment plan including on-campus interviews, information sessions, classroom visits, etc., acting as the initial point of contact for employers and students.

  • Provide database oversight and serve as the point-of-contact for (a Handshake product) to ensure data integrity, access, utilization and updates.

  • Generate and develop student employment and internship opportunities as outlined in the Job Location and Development ( JLD ) grant, managing and tracking required reporting of cultivated opportunities.

  • Promote and celebrate student and internship employment as part of larger retention and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts as outlined in MSU’s strategic plan.

  • Generate and promote state and federal career opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the campus community of employment trends, processes and procedures promoting student employment, work-study employment, internships, entrepreneurship and full-time employment.

  • Coordinate and lead logistics for special events and projects including on-campus recruiting, career events, etc.

  • Provide training to students and employers on how to use to search, apply and interview for student employment, internship employment and full-time employment opportunities.

  • Supervise a program assistant and student associate(s) to provide logistical and operational support of both the JLD grant and career services events.

  • Work collaboratively with AYCSS staff and administration to develop and employ new methods to advance programs.

  • Ensure service excellence, soundness of practice and program metrics are achieved and accurately recorded.

  • Participate and actively engage in professional learning communities and staff training and development to improve student outcomes.

  • Work in conjunction with various campus constituents on initiatives and partnerships.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in program development, management, implementation and delivery assessment and with a high degree of professionalism.

  • Demonstrated technical competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software & relational databases with a willingness to learn additional department and MSU specific software and programs.

  • Demonstrated experience with, managing databases, analytics, and using quantitative metrics to baseline projects

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s degree.

  • Experience with labor and industry, recruiting, human resources or career/professional coaching or training.

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating multiple initiatives while working with various constituents bringing project to a successful completion.

  • Demonstrated experience with developing content and its delivery to various audiences.

  • Possess knowledge of the higher education system and related services.

    Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

This position will require occasional scheduled evening and potential weekend hours to host events and interact with students.
