Bozeman Health ENGINEERING WORKER in Bozeman, Montana

  • POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • POSITION SUMMARY

  • This position exists for the purpose of providing for the daily mechanical operations of the hospital, medical office buildings, physical plant and grounds. This is accomplished through corrective and preventive maintenance of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, boilers, vehicles, yard equipment, etc. Engineers are also responsible for security during dayshift hours by locking and unlocking of buildings, security systems, and responding to Dr. Strong pages.

  • REQUIREMENTS

  • EDUCATION

  • Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Preferred:

  • LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • Required:

  • 3rd Class Boiler’s License required.

  • Preferred:

  • EXPERIENCE

  • Required:

  • One-year technical trade school or equivalent training in electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC or carpentry required.

  • Must hold or acquire within 14 months of employment, a valid Montana 3rd Class Boiler License.

  • Preferred:

  • KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:

  • KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Theory of physical plant operations consisting of HVAC, HVAC Controls, boilers, pumps, electrical and plumbing systems.

  • Application of applicable building and other regulatory codes (Life Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.)

  • Basic Computer skills

  • SKILLS IN:

  • Organizing and prioritizing work assignments to completion

  • Oral and written communication

  • ABILITY TO:

  • Work without direct supervision

  • Read and interpret blue prints, wiring diagrams and other technical documents.

  • COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:

  • Maintains flexibility in adapting to a variety of workload assignments.

  • Must be able to be flexible in work schedule.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • 35% Time Spent - Performs repairs and/or trouble-shoots equipment and/or facility problems.

  • 20% Time Spent - Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment or systems on a scheduled basis.

  • 10% Time Spent - Performs daily rounds through areas of responsibility. Makes repairs as required.

  • 5% Time Spent - Consults with customer departments on equipment replacement, facility renovations and/or interiors improvements.

  • 5% Time Spent - Works with vendors or contractors to coordinate necessary facility repairs or renovations.

  • 5% Time Spent - Properly completes required documentation for all work completed.

  • ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains a good relationship with co-workers, other departments, physicians, physician Staff, patients, visitors and other members of the public.

  • Communicates effectively verbally or in writing, by phone or face to face.

  • Maintains or assists in maintaining the department inventory of supplies and equipment.

  • Utilizes proper body mechanics.

  • Uses proper safety equipment and signs when needed.

  • Utilizes proper physical safety skills in preventing physical injury.

  • Complies with policies and procedures of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
