General Statement

The Finance Business Analyst is a member of the Finance & Accounting Systems/Administrative Services team within University Information Technology. This team provides Finance & Accounting IT support services to departments and central offices on all four campuses, ensuring that appropriate decision support systems are functioning, interfaces with the State accounting system function properly, and the financial users on all four campuses receive accurate, complete information with which to run their departments. The team provides programming support, information retrieval, and data delivery to the central financial offices, developing more efficient ways of doing business by using new and existing applications. The team interacts closely with the University Business Services and University Information Technology departments to meet the needs of campuses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Duties and responsibilities are in four primary areas: business processes/procedures, system administration, user support and project management for the MSU four-campus finance/accounting ERP system, EDM , & PCI .

  • Proactively identify and recommend system-enabled business process and/or procedure improvements in finance/accounting area.

  • Participate in the development and analysis of business processes. Collaborate with manager and finance/accounting teams to implement process improvements, reduce risks, increase controls and/or increase customer satisfaction.

  • Create, develop and maintain campus-wide online finance training. Coordinate with University Business Services/Accounting Services for users with training needs or “how to” questions.

  • Lead functional administration of the finance/accounting area ERP modules and other finance/accounting related systems (e.g., Commerce Manager, QuickPay) for all MSU campuses and agencies, ensuring system integrity and security.

  • Plan and execute finance/accounting area software upgrades, develop test plans and communicate effectively regarding timing and impacts both internally and externally to the organization.

  • Manage departmental communications across all four campuses on processes, schedules and other relevant information including month-end and fiscal year-end close.

  • Manage user account security for Banner finance/accounting systems, SABHRS , AssetWorks, PCI and ensure overall system security.

  • Manage departmental projects with limited scope and/or small project teams, creating schedules as well as communicating clearly with stakeholders.

  • Website maintenance for University Business Services, PCI , and EDM .

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technology field, accounting, finance or related field or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.

  • Professional work experience in systems administration and user support, preferably in the finance/accounting area.

  • Hands-on experience with ERP software systems, demonstrating an understanding of ERP system structure, relationships and impacts.

  • Experience with and proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Project management experience with IT projects and/or project management certification.

  • Knowledge of enterprise and/or governmental accounting and policies and procedures.

  • Experience with information security and electronic document management ( EDM ).

  • Experience with payment card industry standards ( PCI ).
