Position Details

General Statement

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, revise, and track expenditures for project and sub-recipient budgets

  • Identify, develop and manage the appropriate tools and financial analysis to identify trends, flag potential issues, and recommend actions to senior management;

  • Effectively monitor sub-recipients’ payments and reconcile expenditures to ensure these are correctly incorporated into prime award financial reports and maintain a master tracker so the cash advance to each SR on every grant is known at any given time

  • Ensure all spending meets donor and MSU policies and accounting regulations

  • Coordinate with MSU’s OSP Finance Manager to resolve finance issues

  • Communicate and explain applicable policies and ensure adherence with sub-recipients

  • Prepare reports as required by donors and grant administrators

  • Prepare documents and response for audits

  • Understand and identify trends in errors noted during reviews, and work with appropriate teams to prevent ongoing issues;

  • Provide on-going budgetary support and tutoring/mentoring to sub-awardees

  • Order and procure project related items

  • Update web communications

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in in finance or accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Progressively responsible experience with budgeting, accounting, and reporting.

  • Demonstrated experience with preparing and editing financial reports.

  • Demonstrated experience working with standard administrative procedures and accounting principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and advanced functions; familiarity with data query tools is helpful (Access, SQL).

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with standard administrative procedures and accounting principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Experience with grants.gov and extramural granting agencies.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills.

  • Project coordination experience.
