Position Details

General Statement

MSU’s Office of International Programs offers quality international education opportunities for MSU students and faculty and provides accessible MSU academic experiences to capable students from around the world.

The International Admissions Evaluator reports to the Directori of International Student and Scholar Services and contributes directly to achieving MSU’s international enrollment goals. The focus will be on international undergraduate admissions, as well as work with the Graduate school, and working within information systems, including a CRM , Banner, and CollegeNet.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate international freshman and transfer applications with educational credentials from various international educational systems as well as US credentials

  • Assist international applicants through the application process

  • Evaluate applicant eligibility for Office of International Programs scholarships

  • Track the application process for applications sent to MSU from international recruitment partners to ensure applications are completed and the timely delivery of an admission decision

  • Communicate with prospective students following admissions decisions

  • Monitor and update communication plans

  • Liaison with Admissions Office, Registrar, Graduate School and academic units to facilitate and streamline admissions processes

  • Work in Banner information system for applicant processing

  • Participate in international student recruitment trips, fairs, and virtual events

  • Manage student workers in document processing and applicant/prospect communication roles.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Substantial level of international relations experience, can be demonstrated by international travel and/or life experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in: marketing, public relations, counseling, business, education, communication, international studies, foreign languages, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using personal computers for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, websites, presentations, and email. Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

  • Excellent written communications skills

  • Ability to speak a foreign language

  • Knowledge of higher education systems

  • Have experience with multi relational databases

  • Knowledge of international admissions processes

    The Successful Candidate Will

  • Possess excellent written communication skills as well as exceptional public speaking skills in intercultural environments

  • Use problem-solving skills and abilities to make appropriate recommendations to supervisor

  • Possess strong computer skills including database, internet applications, and troubleshooting at a user level

  • Will be able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Possess knowledge of world cultures and international student market trends

  • Have a strong ability to build cooperative working relationships across cultural and organizational lines

  • Possess an in-depth understanding of CORE curriculum and credential evaluation

  • Be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with faculty and staff credential evaluators in academic departments and track progress of evaluation requests

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills required with large volume of applications to follow international graduate and undergraduate applications from submission through decision and assist students prior to enrolling

  • Possess knowledge of Excel for data management

  • Possess ability and willingness to learn a large body of knowledge about a program which is key to MSU’s enrollment goals
