Brief Position Overview
Medical Assistants provide excellent care as part of the Continuity Clinic provider team at UHP Medical Services. The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with patient care management and clinical procedures as well as providing administrative support (phone calls, appointments, etc.) to other team members. In addition, this MA will serve as the lead surgical assistant and take primary responsibility for medical instrument sterilization.

Position Details
General Statement
This position reports to the Chief Medical Officer and may work with any physician within Student Health Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Take and record vital signs
Prepare patients for exam
Assist health care providers with exams
Explain exam/treatment procedures to patients
Collect lab specimens
Instruct patients regarding medications, referrals, follow-up appointments
Administer medications and/or injections
Perform ECG and Spirometry tests
Make appointments
Obtain and manage medical records
Return phone calls when requested
Manage returned lab/x-ray reports including calls to patients with results with direction from a clinician
Work closely with clinical staff and business operations manager to maintain inventory of consumable supplies and reorder/replenish as needed
Prepare medical equipment and instruments for decontamination
Operate equipment to clean and sterilize surgical instruments, medical devices, and equipment
Inspect equipment for signs for wear or damage
Order, unpack, stock and inventory medical supplies for clinic
Respond to emergency supply requests during minor surgery
Maintain accurate records of when items undergo sterilization
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Completed an educational program for medical assistants
Certified Medical Assistant or a Registered Medical Assistant
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Two or more years of experience working as a medical assistant or related field
Experience working with college students or young adults
Demonstrated excellent skills in patient care support functions
Experience with medical instrument sterilization
