General Statement
The Auxiliary Services Information Technology Division (https://www.montana.edu/resnet/index.html) (AuxIT) provides essential technological support for critical systems throughout the Auxiliary Services Enterprise to 4600+ students utilizing the Residential Network (ResNet) services, and Auxiliaries’ systems for 12,000+ other campus users and constituents for a variety of things such as access points to buildings with CatCard entry points, purchase of food/beverage on campus, conference attendees, purchase of tickets for athletic events or concerts, and other unique software systems to Auxiliaries.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the AuxIT Director, this position works independently to provide technical support across a wide variety of networks including but not limited to Auxiliary IT/ResNet infrastructure, security cameras, CatCard card readers (access, laundry, attendance), Micros POS terminals, ticketing system, and other miscellaneous infrastructure needs across the university. Primary duties include:
Provides installation and support of hardware and software to meet client specifications for day to day business and special projects. Highlight of duties include:
Configures, installs, terminates and tests network endpoints and wireless access points.
Work includes cable routing and pathway assessments.
Installation, configuration and mounting of associated hardware.
Provides advanced technical support for computer hardware, peripheral devices, and systems by researching, troubleshooting, interpreting, analyzing, and resolving problems across the networks.
Works on regular and special projects ensuring successful implementation while providing regular communication with all stakeholders on deliverables and timelines. Collaborates and acts as liaison with AuxIT, clients, Facilities Services, off campus vendors and UIT .
Primary support for the CatCard infrastructure, the campus ID card, servicing all of campus (upgrades, installs, etc).
System management expertise including installing, configuring, tuning, upgrading, and troubleshooting hardware and software systems.
Receives product specific training and certification as mandated by current hardware and software vendors.
Maintains inventory control and orders parts as needed.
Supervises 2-4 student employees during project implementation (training, scheduling, assigning tasks).
And actively participates as part of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
At least 1 year of experience installing and supporting an IT infrastructure or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Active experience providing excellent customer service through troubleshooting and resolution of IT issues.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards ( TIA / EIA , NEC ) and codes governing the installation of network cable and equipment.
Experience using the OSI model to troubleshoot issues.
Demonstrated understanding of IP networking.
Experience maintaining a card-based ID systems and related technologies

Must be able to distinguish the colors in a standard data/voice cable (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, slate, black, white, and violet), and must be able to perceive and distinguish tones (cable tracer, test tones, dial tone, etc.)
