POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION SUMMARY The Surgical Services Nurse Manager will be responsible for the day to day flow and patient care of the operating room, and work in collaboration with surgical services nursing leadership. This position will have dedicated responsbilty 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to ensure effecitve flow with a focus on the patients, providers, and employees of the operating room and surgical services as delegated. This position will lead, manage, supervise, evaluate, hire, and develop the nursing team, inlcuding all technical and asisstive personal in the operating room through the day to day operations and change. This position will refer to and develop policies, procedures, guidelines, and department specific instructions. The OR Clinical Practice Nurse Manager will ensure the departments are aligned with the overall mission, vision, values, and culture of Bozeman Health. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of patient care policies that are based on evidence and/or best practice standards and comply with regulatory requirements. As new nursing knowledge and innovations in practice advance, the OR Clinical Practice Nurse Manager is responsible to lead their application into practice. The OR Clinical Practice Nurse Manager will ensure standardized implementation across surgical services by working closely and in collaboration with the other nurse leaders of Surgical Services. The OR Clinical Practice Nurse Manager serves as a member of the department of nursing and reports to the System Director of Clinical Operations and works in collaboration with the nurse leaders in Surgical Services and the department of nursing. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred: Graduate Degree in Nursing or related field LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION Required: Montana Registered Nurse License Basic Life Support Advanced Cardiac Life Support Pediatric Advanced Life Support CNOR within one year TNCC within one year Preferred: Certification in related nursing specialty or certification in nursing leadership EXPERIENCE Required: Current patient care experience in surgical services 5 year minimum of supervisory experience Experience working with electronic health records Preferred: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 10% Time Spent - Organizational Responsibilities - Promotes the mission, vision, values, and culture of Bozeman Health Identifies and supports the implementation of Bozeman Health's strategic goals 30% Time Spent - Management of Patient Care - Creates and supports a clinical practice environment focused on nursing professional autonomy, interprofessional collaboration, and innovation Collaborates with the nursing leaders and providers to standardize and integrate innovation and evidenced based practice in patient care across the continuum. Provides leadership for development and advancement of nursing Reviews, reports, and adjusts nursing practices to meet regulatory and legal standards, including accreditation and CMS rules and regulations. Maintains and demonstrates current knowledge in healthcare delivery to advance nursing practice and the provisions of qualtiy care at Bozeman Health Reviews reported safety events and closes the loop Provides direct patient care as needed Monitors patient satisfaction scores and establishes goals for areas of opportunities- Reviews and develops action plans based on safety events 40% Time Spent - Management of Department Staff- Serves as a leader and role model to department staff Delegates duties as appropriate to ensure engagement and involvement from unit staff Ensures department staff has the education and training to deliver safe and effective care Maintains rounding on staff and evaluations at a frequency deemed necessary by staff engagement and behavior and as determined by Bozeman Health Promotes a culture of team work both in the departments and inter-departmentally Ensures adequate supplies, tools, and equipment to provide safe and quality patient care Monitors culture scores and establishes goals for areas of opportunitiesFinancial Responsibilities In collaboration with the Surgical Services nursing leadership team, maintains the operational and capital budget to align with strategic and operational goals of Bozeman Health Aligns with organizational parameters for productivity Ensures cost containment to remain competitive with the cost of health care Promotes an environment that encourages staff to accept responsibility for financial success of the department and the hospital. Responsible for maintaining block time for the department of surgery 10% Time Spent - Human Resources - Interviews and hires staff, considering best fit for the departments. Utilizes peer interviews. Provides feedback, coaching, and counseling on an on-going basis to assist employees to improve performance or develop untapped potential. Facilitates development of staff performance improvement plans when required. Provides effective communication structure within and among departments. Promotes educational and professional growth for self and staff. Unplanned staff turnover maintained within acceptable levels. Works with staff to maintain appropriate staffing levels on each shift. Clearly articulates expectations to staff through communication, job descriptions, and performance standards. Promotes an environment where staff feels valued and respected. May be required to assist with all staffing duties. 5% Time Spent - Culture- Provides direction to promote customer satisfaction Maintains and monitors internal customer satisfaction through employee surveys. - Maintains and monitors physician satisfaction Monitors patient and family satisfaction through hospital wide patient opinion survey tools and maintains scores at established target levels. Maintains awareness of DNV and CMS accreditation standards and provides nursing leadership with the information needed to maintain compliance.
