  • POSITION SUMMARY

  • If Perioperative Nurse:

Responsible for conducting perioperative testing and patient counseling.

If Recovery Room Nurse:

Performs nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/postanesthesia period, assessing and documenting patient's status upon arrival in the recovery room. Provides nusring care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered, monitoring patient and informing surgeon or anesthetist of observed complications.

If Operating Room Nurse:

Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.

  • REQUIREMENTS

  • EDUCATION

  • Required:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Preferred:

    • Computer literacy
  • LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • Required:

    • Current Montana RN license by date of hire.
    • Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card by date of hire.
    • ACLS required within 1 year of hire
  • Preferred:

    • Current AHA ACLS certification
  • EXPERIENCE

  • Required:

    • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Preferred:

    • ASC experience
  • KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:

  • KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Proper techniques and procedures and uses them according to accepted standards of practice
  • Developing teaching programs and implementing them as requested

  • SKILLS IN:

    • Communicating effectively with Physician's, patients and patient families and co-workers
  • Evaluating the outcome of teaching and counseling programs as they pertain to patients' overall satisfaction with the surgical experience.

  • Effectively organizes time, supplies, equipment and personnel.

  • ABILITY TO:

    • Assist with inventory of supplies, drugs and equipment availability
  • Move quickly in response to patient needs.

  • Make constant and frequent judgement and response to routine problems

  • Make occasional judgement and response to disasters or emergencies, actual events, or drills.

  • COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY:

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • If Periop RN:

  • 45% time Spent

  • Provides direct patient care and monitoring during the Phase II post anesthesia period and post procedural period for pediatrics through geriatric patients. Able to adequately assess pain and the hemodynamic stability of the patient.

  • 30% Time Spent -

  • Provides direct patient care/assessment during the preoperative/procedural period and actively participates as a team member by communicating with the anesthesiologist, surgeon, other physicians, staff and other departments

  • 15% Time Spent -

  • Participates in other activities and duties as assigned, such as providing Procedural Sedation and Physiological Monitoring for Pain Managemen

  • 10% Time Spent -

  • Participates with inventory management, charging of supplies and procedure

  • If Recovery Room RN:

  • 65% Time Spent -

    • Continuous monitoring, assessment and documentation of care during Postanesthesia Phase I
  • 15% Time Spent -

    • Communication with other team members relating to patient care
  • 15% Time Spent -

    • Transfer of patient to next stage of care
  • 5% Time Spent-

    • Care and discharge of patient during Phase II of recovery from anesthesia.
  • Ordering and stocking of supplies

  • If Surgical RN:

  • 25% Time Spent-

    • Demonstrates the ability to establish an environment of safety for the surgical patient.
  • 25% time Spent -

    • Demonstrates the ability to assess, diagnoses, implement, and evaluate treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological stability of the surgical patient.
  • 25% Time Spent -

    • Demonstrates knowledge about the psychologic, sociologic and spiritual responses of the patient and their families to the operative or other invasive procedure, including participation of patient in their recovery. Supports patient’s rights and ethics by delivering consistent, competent and ethical care within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and supporting the patient’s value system.
  • 25% Time Spent -

    • Demonstrates knowledge of the health system environment and administrative issues that impact job performance, safety and ethical considerations
