Prepare patients for surgery or procedures. Review and validate preadmission assessment. Provide pre operative education to include what patient can expect on the day of surgery, assessment and treatment of pain and post operative needs and care. Communication of information to Providers and other members of the health care team.
Post operative/procedural care of the patient. Phase II- Care focusing on preparation of the patient for discharge. Post operative assessment of the patient. Continued monitoring for pain and nausea. Post operative teaching.
Assist providers with pain block procedures/Bronchoscopies/Procedural Sedation /Nerve Blocks
Periop staff are required to take Call 2 in PACU. See PACU job description.
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION
- RN license
PALS within 6 months of hire
- 1 year acute care experience
- Procedural Sedation

- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and adapt to a variety of workload assignments.
Competent in the administration of procedural sedation.
40% Time Spent -
Provides direct patient care and monitoring during the Phase II post anesthesia period and post procedural period for pediatrics through geriatric patients.
Able to adequately assess pain and the hemodynamic stability of the patient.
40% Time Spent -
Provides direct patient care/assessment during the preoperative/procedural period and actively participates as a team member by communicating with the anesthesiologist, surgeon, other physicians, staff and other departments
15% Time Spent -
Participates in other activities and duties as assigned, such as providing Procedural Sedation and Physiological Monitoring for Pain Management and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
5% Time Spent -
Participates with inventory management, charging of supplies and procedures
Complies with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines related to care for patients with hyperacute and acute stroke.
Participates in two hours of initial cerebrovascular disease (stroke) education by November 1, 2018, or within one year of hire.
Participates in one hour annually of cerebrovascular disease (stroke) education.
