  • POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • POSITION SUMMARY

  • In a variety of settings, including outdoors, Specimen Collectors follow processes for identifying patient orders, registering patients, collecting and processing specimens for the purpose of laboratory testing. Performs clerical duties as assigned. Provides for a positive experience for patients. This position requires a high level of customer service, ability to remain calm and manage various patient and the ability to contribute effectively as team player.

  • REQUIREMENTS

  • EDUCATION

  • Required:

  • High school or equivalent

  • Preferred:

  • Education in Phlebotomy techniques, Medical Assistant

  • LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION

  • Required:

  • Preferred:

  • Certified Phlebotomist or Certified Medical Assistant

  • EXPERIENCE

  • Required:

  • Preferred:

  • Previous Phlebotomy experience, Medical Assistant or Lab Assistant

  • KNOWLEDGE OF, SKILLS IN, ABILITY TO, COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULY:

    • Personal computer, typing, basic computer functions.
  • Must be literate.

  • Customer Service

  • Basic computer functions including typing

  • Multi-tasking in high stress situations.

  • Refer to policy and procedure manuals for specific instructions/guidelines and to follow established policies and procedures

  • Adhere to the standards of the job description and overall philosophy of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital

  • Perform activities that demonstrate a degree of accuracy, attention to detail.

  • Safely and adequately provide care and service based on patients' needs.

  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments, shifts and locations.

  • Interact with and provide proper customer service to patients, including those who may be quite ill or injured

  • Be trained in phlebotomy procedures

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Collecting blood specimens via venipuncture in a variety of in- and out-patient settings.
  • Findings orders, receiving specimens and other computer record housekeeping

  • Performing EKGs
