POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION SUMMARY In collaboration with the System Chief Nursing Officer, System Director of Clinical Practice and System Director of of Clinical Operations, the System Director of Primary Care Nursing, and the System Director of Procedural Nursing, the System Director of Medical Specialty Nursing is responsible for the overall performance, planning, organizing and directing the day to day patient care operations and delivery of ambulatory care across the Bozeman Health System. This position will be responsible for the development of effective and efficient processes that maximize the value of care delivery. In collaboration with the System Chief Nursing Officer, System Director of Clinical Practice and System Director of Clinical Operations, the System Director of Medical Specialty Nursing will participate in short and long-term strategic planning for Ambulatory Nursing at Bozeman Health and actively promotes the mission of the organization by assuring the achievement of overall quality, safety, service and performance improvement outcomes. The System Director of Ambulatory Nursing will be accountable for the clinical financial performance of Ambulatory Nursing across the Bozeman Health System. The System Director of Medical Specialty Nursing serves as a member of the System Executive Nursing Leadership (SENL) team and reports to the System Chief Nursing Officer. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Required: Bachelors Degree in Nursing; Graduate Degree in Nursing or related field Preferred: If Graduate Degree in progress, must be completed by 2020 LICENSURE and CERTIFICATION Required: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Montana Preferred: EXPERIENCE Required: At least 5-7 years of Ambulatory Practice and/or progressive Nursing Leadership Preferred: Prior experience working in a highly matrixed organization and integrated delivery system Professional Affiliations ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 100% Time Spent - NOTE: The essential functions are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of the position of System Director of Medical Specialty Nursing and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Identifies and supports the implementation of Bozeman Health's Strategic Goals In collaboration with System CNO, System Director of Clinical Practice and System Director of Clinical Nursing (System Executive Nursing Leadership team - SENL) develops and leads the short and long term strategic direction of Medical Specialty Nursing for Bozeman Health which integrates into the Systems Strategic Plan. In collaboration with the SENL, assumes leadership responsibility for developing the vision and strategic planning processes that lead to the implementation of clinically cost effective and efficient systems of care within the continuum of the Bozeman Medical Specialty Nursing system that are designed to improve the overall health and quality of life of the community served. Actively engages with the SENL team in strategic and operational planning which improves performance in quality, safety, patient experience, staff engagement, financial sustainability and standardization of the delivery of patient care in the Ambulatory setting. Responsible for the development and deployment of consistent, standardized intentionally designed care processes and efficient, cost effective clinical care operations in all ambulatory clinical sites in collaboration with the SENL team. In collaboration with the System Chief Nursing Officer and the System Director of Clinical Operations, directs the strategies that have significant impact on clinical financial operations and creatively develops programs which generate additional revenue and/or reduce costs In collaboration with the SENL team, oversees the integration of standardized, patient care delivery across Medical Specialty Care Nursing Creates and supports a clinical practice environment focused on nursing professional autonomy, inter-professional collaboration and innovation throughout Bozeman Health Medical Specialty Care Nursing. Reviews, reports and adjusts nursing practices in Bozeman Health Medical Specialty Care Nursing to meet necessary regulatory and legal standards In collaboration with the System Director of Clinical Nursing, leads the standardization and integration of innovation and evidence based findings into clinical practice throughout Bozeman Health Medical Specialty Care Nursing. Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services administration and the delivery of services while assuring a measurable, outcome-focused, systematic approach to care delivery. Embraces shared decision making in Medical Specialty Care Nursing by energizing staff and others in decision making that is patient centered in an environment that is conducive to discussion and opinion sharing. Ensures and fosters a high level of collaboration within a highly matrixed team environment in order to coordinate activities, exchange information, resolve problems and set strategic direction. Maintains effective communication with all nursing staff and other hospital personnel, SENL, physicians, administrators and executive leadership. Maintains and demonstrates current knowledge in healthcare systems administration to advance nursing practice and the provision of quality services at Bozeman Health. Attends/holds membership on system and medical staff committees as appropriate In collaboration with the SENL and Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital Director of Nursing and Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center Director of Nursing, identify key indicators including measures of quality, safety, other outcomes of nursing practice and customer needs and expectations. In collaboration with the SENL team, monitors the performance of the system from an operational, clinical effectiveness and efficiency point of view; identifying variances and developing strategies to correct them. In collaboration with the System Directory of Clinical Operations, promotes sound fiscal operations by implementing effective budgeting processes including facilitating the development of the annual operating and capital budgets in the Ambulatory Departments and ensuring compliance with productivity standards Maintains awareness of DNV and CMS accreditation standards and provides nursing leadership with the information needed to maintain compliance. Generates and encourages innovation and research to solve complex clinical issues in the Ambulatory arena. Attends/holds membership on system and medical staff committees as appropriate. In collaboration with the System Chief Nursing Officer, supports and engages in the journey to Magnet Designation
