Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs

DUTIES:

Assist the Director of Sponsored Programs in overall fiscal and administrative management of grants and contracts.

Provide guidance in developing practical solutions to sponsored project management issues.

Monitor complex accounting records for compliance with sponsor and university requirements.

Prepare and submit financial reports and billing statements to sponsors based on requirements and deadlines.

Work collaboratively with the Research Office to coordinate the review of new awards, execute necessary documents, and prepare the contract/grant for set up in Banner Finance.

Support time and effort reporting and documentation on federal awards.

Work with Principal Investigators and departments to review, track, and report cost sharing requirements.

Implement a one on one Sponsored Program training program for new Principal Investigators, including award review, responsibilities, financial programs available, and award close out.

Monitor subcontracts issued on sponsored program funding for compliance with university and sponsor requirements

Work closely with the Purchasing Manager to process Contracted Service Agreements, Scope of Work Agreements, and Equipment purchases.

Process payment to state agencies.

Evaluate cost transfers to ensure the transfer is allowable and allocable to the sponsored projects.

Perform final fiscal review of all expenditures on projects and fiscally close the project after the completion of project performance

Manage accounts payable staff and a student employee.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field with 2 years related work experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite

  • Strong oral and written communications skills

  • Great organizational and time management skill with the ability to multi-task in a deadline-driven environment

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-4 years University Accounting Experience

  • Knowledge of Banner Finance, University of Montana Data Warehouse (UMDW), and GrizMart

  • Knowledge of the State and University accounting policies and procedures

  • Experience with post-award sponsored program administration

  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principle, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance)
