DUTIES:

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students this position is responsible for providing culturally sensitive individual psychotherapy for students, crisis intervention, outreach and consultation to campus the community, and wellness programming. Time allocation is primarily counseling with some wellness programming. This position works collaboratively with the Wellness Coordinator/Counselor, and Disability Service Coordinator.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Provides psychotherapy to students. Makes referrals to on and off campus professionals and, when necessary, coordinates care with psychiatric providers.

  • Helps manage any crisis situations.

  • Consults with students, faculty, staff and parents regarding mental health issues and the well-being of students.

  • Abides by applicable State and Federal laws, licensure requirements and professional codes of ethics.

  • Documents, organizes and manages client records in accordance with professional standards and state and federal laws.

  • Presents outreach education to students on topics that are relevant to their emotional and social well-being. Coordinates and arranges outreach activities, including promotion of programs offered.

  • Conducts training programs for Residence Life (e.g. RAs, RDs) and to staff and faculty, in order to educate the campus on mental health and developmental issues.

  • Analyzes data, generate periodic reports (monthly, semester, annual).

  • Participates in committees, taskforces, and special assignments.

  • Functions as the club advisor for Active Minds.

  • Completes any and all other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor /Dean of Students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or higher in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work.

  • Must be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state Montana, or license candidates must be able to complete licensing within 2 years of hire.

  • Demonstrated clinical experience working with adults, including crisis assessment and intervention.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and support for diversity, equity and inclusion

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to practice effective communications with students, faculty, staff, administration and parents.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and use good judgement in providing services based on goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and also engage in collaborative team efforts.

  • Have the ability to complete documentation in a timely manner in accordance with policies and ethical standards.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Have the ability to use computer programs, including electronic health records.

  • Ability to analyze data and write reports.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or as a Licensed Clinical Social worker in Montana by start date.

  • Experience with traditional college age population (18-24 yrs. old).

  • Experience and interest in group psychotherapy.

  • Experience and interest in providing outreach and consultation.

  • Area of specialized clinical interest relevant to a college population.

  • Experience with Mindfulness Meditation training.
