Job Overview: This position drives visually impaired staff to appointments or meetings, provide reader services and assistance with carrying equipment.
Major Duties or Responsibilities:
Drive staff members to appointments and/or meetings
Receive destination instructions and determine appropriate route and timing.
Adhere to rules and regulations required by Montana state motor vehicle driver licensure and the Department’s Vehicle Use Agreement.
Drive staff safely to their destination.
Provide reader services
Read documents for staff members.
Assist with filling out forms or writing.
Provide descriptions of observed location or behaviors.
Carry equipment to and from vehicles.
Deliver or pick up equipment from consumers.
Physical and Environmental Demands: The driver will spend a significant amount of time driving a car or van in various weather conditions and will be at the homes of consumers. The majority of driving will be local or day trips, with approximately 10-15% out-of-town/overnight travel. Equipment that must be carried could weigh up to 50 pounds and be carried from parked cars to buildings and occasionally up or down stairs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors):
Required for the first day of work:
Knowledge of Montana motor vehicle operation rules and regulations.
Demonstrated skill in safe vehicle operation.
Skill in reading aloud.
Ability to write legibly.
Ability to find a location when given an address.
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Required minimum education and experience :
Ability to read at 12th grade level.
Five years driving experience.
