Electric Transmission Planning Engineer Intern


  • Engineering major required
  • Junior level or higher by start date
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must provide GPA in Resume upon application
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Electrical Engineer major is highly preferred
  • Knowledge about electric power and power flow analysis is preferred


  • Learn about transmission systems and projects, modeling existing transmission lines and complete engineering analysis
  • Use Power Flow software (PSSE and Powerworld) to perform steady state power flow, fault duty analysis, and PV analysis
  • Research materials and write corresponding reports
  • Contribute to a variety of study tasks assigned to Transmission Planning (e.g. interconnection studies, capacity studies, etc)
  • Participate in organizational work meetings
  • Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives

Temporary position; full-time May - August and part-time September - May.

$18.00 per hour for first year interns, $19.00 per hour for returning interns.
