DUTIES:

Successful candidate will be based in Butte, Montana. Generally, responsibilities will include collection of water-levels and water quality samples from monitoring wells and surface water sites throughout SW and central MT. Considerable field work is involved with the position, including during inclement weather (40-70% field). Individual will also be responsible for development of site safety plans, equipment maintenance, and data entry. Additional tasks will include compiling data , including preparation of figures and tables for reports and presentations. Additional responsibilities may be related to field- and laboratory-scale investigations, operation and maintenance of telemetry systems. Successful candidate will be expected to participate in field sampling activities, work with the public and local, state, and federal agencies. Specific duties will depend on qualifications. The position will be supported by grants and contracts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science degree in natural resource field, i.e., hydrogeology, geology, environmental engineering/ occupational safety and health, or related field.

  • Experience cited by a candidate must demonstrate a familiarity with field work and equipment.

  • Ability to work alone in remote locations and lift 75 lbs.

  • Ability to walk up to 1 mi into remote sites on uneven ground.

  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office programs, i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation and procedures including use of conductivity meters, pH meters, water level measuring devices, and development of site safety plans;

  • Experience with the collection and interpretation of technical data;

  • Ability to work well with public and private groups;

  • Safety certifications i.e. OSHA 1910.120 and MSHA surface mine;

  • Ability to work either independently or as a team member.
