NORTHWESTERN ENERGY Vegetation Management Manager in BUTTE, Montana
Location preferred in Butte; will consider Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena or Missoula for the right candidate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Valid Drive's License and satisfactory driving record
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
- Ability to pass an employment physical, a drug test and a background check
- Ten years of experience with Utility Arboriculture preferred
- Certified Arborist with a Utility Specialist option preferred
- Four-year degree in forestry, biology, public relations or similar degree preferred
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
- Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission and strategic business objectives
- Ensure that safety of employees, public and contract resources are prioritized during the execution of all vegetation related projects and activities
- Oversee the process for vegetation management around Transmission and Distribution electric power lines in conformance with specifications to prevent power outages
- Manage the vegetation line clearance, weed control and bare ground activities in all NWE service areas
- Develop and set policy for new methods for line clearance and vegetation management in compliance with regulations and standards
- Plan and execute Transmission Vegetation Management Plan (TVMP) according to federal requirements and ensure compliance with all FERC and WECC mandates
- Oversee and manage contractor foresters who notify customers prior to tree-trimming events on their properties
- Evaluate and resolve customer-related problems, questions and complaints involving vegetation
- Stay current on vegetation regulatory issues impacting NWE vegetation management
- Work closely with Operations Division leadership to meet their needs for vegetation-based maintenance
- Establish and maintain communication with government and regulatory agencies to plan and execute vegetation management projects
- Evaluate new or emerging technology and systems to improve program efficiency, increase situational awareness and/or fill business need
- Stay abreast on overall vegetation health (including invasive species) in service areas and proactively mitigate risks to ensure integrity of the business assets
- Oversee/prepare bid packages and request for proposals on cycle line clearance projects and other major vegetation mitigation work
- Review and comment on proposed state and federal legislation related to vegetation control issues
- Develop 5-year budget planning for T&D line clearance and bare ground control
- Develop work scope and expense monitoring systems which provide accurate tracking of work completion and forecasted monthly and annual expense
- Ensure that cycle trimming and vegetation management activities are completed on schedule and within budget and scope
- Provide Risk Management with information related to vegetation related inquiries
- Respond during major storm work and work long hours in inclement weather
- Investigate and report on accidents involving the public, contractors or employees
- Educate company or public groups on safety or vegetation management topics
- Prepare the Vegetation Management Department annual budget
- Prepare pre-construction weed inventory plan documents and complete site restoration and weed control services post construction for major projects
Full-time position.
$102,200 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience.
