St. James Healthcare, established in 1881, is the only acute-care provider in Butte, Montana, and the largest hospital serving the seven-county area surrounding Butte. St. James Healthcare is a 67-bed, full-service acute-care hospital and offers services in more than 30 medical specialties, including 24/7 emergency medical services, cardiovascular services, orthopedics, medical and radiation oncology, inpatient and outpatient surgery, and women's and children's services. The St. James Medical Group, formed in 2011, now includes St. James Heart Center, St. James Surgical Associates, St. James Urology, St. James Cancer Center, St. James Rocky Mountain Clinic and St. James Emergency Medicine. As Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer you would report to the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for SCL Health and matrix to the President of St. James Healthcare. You will interface closely with the other care site CNOs across the Montana region and health system to advance clinical integration, leverage our skill and scale and to promote appropriate standardization and "systemness" of SCL Health. The cornerstone of this role is the development of meaningful relationships and ongoing dialogue and communication with leaders and hospital medical staff, working in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to improve clinical outcomes; the ultimate result being the achievement of the "ideal patient experience" coupled with providing an engaging environment for all to practice cohesively in the provision of care.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in the At Risk Compensation (ARC) Plan. This plan enables SCL Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The ARC Award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected SCL Health Board-approved goals.
As the Chief Nursing Officer & Chief Operating Officer for St. James Healthcare, you will set the vision for nursing practice as you focus on overall quality of care, patient safety, patient and family experience, standards of care, leadership development, succession planning, and fiscal responsibility while adhering to Ethical and Religious Directives. Working within a collaborative and inter-professional environment, you are influential in improving the patient experience of care, improving the health of populations, and reducing cost of healthcare. You will consistently and effectively operationalize the competencies outlined by the Association of Nurse Leaders (AONL). These include communication and relationship management, knowledge of the health care environment, leadership and professionalism, and business skills.

We expect excellence, which is why we look for:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a bachelor's of science degree in nursing (BSN), required.
Master's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or business, required.
Minimum of three (3) years of senior level nursing leadership in an acute care environment, required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a like role in hospital administration, required.
Current license to practice in the state of Montana (or ability to obtain license), required.
Professional certification or willingness to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire, required.
Experience with labor unions, required.
Experience with performance improvement processes/tools (e.g. High Reliability Organization, Lean, IHI) preferred.
Doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) or PhD, preferred.
