Position : Industrial Engineer – Columbia Falls

Division: Innovative Solutions Group (ISG)

Department: Industrial Efficiencies

Schedule: Full-Time – Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Industrial Efficiencies

The Industrial Engineer is responsible for optimizing processes and operations to increase productivity, boost efficiency, reduce production costs and improve product quality, while ensuring the standards of employee safety, environmental standards and government regulations are met. They are to find new, faster, and less wasteful methods in the production of goods to save the company valuable resources. A successful candidate will be able to adapt and innovate within the unique design challenges of Nomad’s industry and clientele. All steps within the Industrial Engineer’s work portfolio must meet or exceed Nomad GCS’s standards of excellence.

Essential Functions/Responsibility

  • Work closely with Director of Industrial Efficiencies.

  • Manage continuous improvements projects and Lean activities within the facility to improve overall workflow.

  • Perform process and capacity analyses by documenting product, resource and information flow in current operations using tools including value stream maps, process flow diagrams, time, and motion studies, and SolidWorks drawings.

  • Develop and train team members with department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensures regular audits for the maintenance of such procedures.

  • Integrate Safety, Material Handling, and Operations requests into layouts.

  • Be able to perform timed studies and communicate them in a meaningful manner.

  • Be able to modify or create CAD layouts for processes and/or facilities.

  • Be able to identify new tooling and equipment, providing ROIs and reports for purchasing considerations.

  • Review and assist departments with cost saving projects, rebalance plans, and launch allocation planning including completing and evaluating time studies.

  • Support problem-solving initiatives by running RCAs and helping to implement corrective actions.

  • Work well within a team environment.

  • Demonstrate proven written & verbal communication skills.

  • Be proficient in software packages such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Visio,) and SolidWorks.

  • Understand the significance of the Nomad Core Values and display a demonstrated willingness to apply them.

  • Perform additional duties that may be assigned by Management.

    Basic Knowledge Desired

  • Be knowledgeable of:

  • business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

  • relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

  • raw material, production processes (welding, machining, grinding/cutting), quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Have previous knowledge and experience gained from:

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD). SolidWorks preferred.

  • engineering designs using sheet metal, weldments, and simulations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is occasionally required to sit.

  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything heavier than 50 pounds will require two people to lift / carry.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors.

    Working Environment

  • Typical indoor office environment, long periods of computer-related work, constant interruptions, and high levels of stress at times.

  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. There are times when working outside will be required.

  • The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time.

  • The employee will be exposed to a variety of household/commercial chemicals that will require the employee to follow company rules/regulations outlined by MSDS.

  • All Team Members must wear OSHA-approved safety glasses and closed-toed shoes at all times on the production floor.

    Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED with BS in Industrial Engineering or similar field of study strongly desired.

  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable work history in Industrial Engineering with additional preference given to Industrial Engineering in a custom manufacturing environment.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements.

  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar) and file management desired.

  • Professional Engineer’s Licensure not a requirement but is beneficial.
