Willingness to work odd hours, weekends and holidays Makoshika State Park is located near Glendive, MT. Makoshika is known for its badlands and the Hell Creek Formation. Glendive is a rural community with every day conveniences. The Yellowstone River flows through the middle of town which offers many recreational activities. Makoshika State Park is Montana’s largest State Park with many amenities. Job Duties: The Makoshika State Park Recreation Ranger assists with park operations, including leading education programs, overseeing the volunteer program, assist with permitting and monitoring commercial use, park planning, rules enforcement, and supporting the management of the paleontology lab and collection room. This work will primarily encompass broad administrative, operational, public safety and relations, and light maintenance activities. This position provides essential services and tasks as they arise, such as cleaning, rule compliance, and other responsibilities assigned. The Recreation Ranger position will work under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Manager and will provide direction for volunteers and staff as assigned. In the absence of the manager, the incumbent may be assigned acting responsibilities. The ranger will work in the paleontology lab organizing, cleaning, preparing fossils and giving educational talks to the general public about the fossils at Makoshika State Park. This position will use the dust collection system and air scribe tools to clean and prep fossils for housing while using the correct adhesives when joining pieces together. The ranger may also be called upon to help the Cultural and Heritage Department doing surveys in the park for projects. This position may also assist the manager with special interest group wanting to conduct field research in the park.
