One Health Part-Time Medical Assistant in Hardin, Montana

We are looking for a motivated and responsive individual to assist providers, nurses, and other patient care staff in providing life changing care in our community.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-Time (20 hours per week)

AVAILABILITY: Monday to Friday

POSITION SUMMARY: Functioning as a member of the primary healthcare team under the general supervision of the site director, this position is responsible for supporting providers, nursing staff, and other staff involved in patient care. Primary duties include assisting patients with intake documents, patient preparation (check-in/-out, documenting vital signs and medical history, etc.), room turnover, and supporting in-clinic laboratory procedures. Additional duties include assisting with referrals, accessing and entering data into electronic medical records, answering patient phone calls, and coordinating outside lab diagnostics.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

Education/Certificates/Licenses:

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • BLS certification upon hire

  • Valid driver’s license

    Preferred

  • Associate degree

  • CNA License

  • Nurse assistant program graduate

  • Certification as a medical assistant from a nationally recognized medical assistant accreditation program, such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA

    Experience:

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets patients and prepares them for provider examination. Screens patients for appropriate information and enters it into the patient’s electronic medical records including the medication list.

  • Performs vital signs and measures height and weight

  • Maintains examination rooms with necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.

  • Sterilize and clean the instruments used and dispose the contaminated supplies.

  • Assesses individual and family needs, working cooperatively with the health care team.

  • Administers prescribed treatments or emergency care, performs diagnostic tests as authorized, and administers preventive immunizations or treatments, as authorized.

  • Answers the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, takes messages as needed, and routes calls or messages to the appropriate staff member.

  • Assists with patient phone calls, working to process medication refills and/or patient questions.

  • Completes pre-visit planning.

  • Leads and/or actively participates in huddle, performs follow up on scheduling, actively involved in the day-to-day clinic scheduling and patient flow issues, missed opportunities, and chart reviews.

  • Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.

  • Works collaboratively with One Health professionals to enhance patient health education, provides information, and arranges referrals and/or encourages compliance, as appropriate.

  • Conducts follow-up and monitoring of care plan in conjunction with the One Health team.

  • Participates in problem-solving, and quality improvements throughout the clinic.

  • Works with the nursing staff in chronic disease management.

  • Assists with vaccine reconciliation, as necessary.

  • Assists patients with paperwork as necessary, including One Health patient documents and outside agency documents that enhance collaborative care.

  • Participates in development of procedures, protocols, standards, and regulations appropriate for patient care.

  • Participates in performance optimization and risk management activities as required.
