POSITION SUMMARY:

The Risk and Compliance Director is an essential part of One Health’s Culture of Quality, risk prevention and ensuring compliance with all One Health clinical, financial, and administrative requirements and regulations, in service to the health and wellbeing of One Health patients. This position provides oversight and supports improvement in standardized systems that protect our team members and patient’s health and safety, emergency preparedness, and preventing costly incidents. This team member is one who can readily see linkages between programs, data, processes, patient health outcomes as a means for providing ongoing leadership, oversight and monitoring of One Health’s risk and compliance systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for day-to-day Risk Management activities of the organization, leading through Just Culture principles.

  • Participates in team strategic goal setting, action planning, monitoring and integration which drive all SIG departmental initiatives.

  • Maintains and validates systematic risk reduction and prevention framework and processes. Uses the framework to convene, facilitate, and report in a quarterly (minimum) meeting to a Risk/Compliance Committee.

  • Responsible for the ongoing monitoring and completion of Risk, Compliance and Quality Assurance reports, formal applications, and documentation (e.g., FTCA Deeming, NCQA PCMH)

  • Analyzes and integrates data from disparate sources (e.g., compliance logs, clinical data, risk/compliance systems, grant requirements, laws, and regulations).

  • Works to improve health care operations and systems by understanding the impact of clinical quality assurance efforts and risk across a wide range of health care operations.

  • Oversees One Health’s Emergency Preparedness Program, working closely with One Health partners in each of the community we serve, as well as other departments.

  • Oversees and manages Patient Grievance, Incident and Claim Management investigations and processes.

  • Suggests ways to both increase healthcare quality, patient and workforce safety through risk reduction and prevention practices, and reduction of costs (e.g., poor monitoring of risk prevention resulting in accidents and costly corrective action).

  • Collaborates with management and internal teams to evaluate improvements specific to risk reduction and prevention, working with the Data Analytics department to develop reporting mechanisms.

  • Assures quality in the areas of risk and compliance with strong collaboration and interface with each of the Strategy and Innovation Group (SIG) members and stakeholders across the organization.

  • Delves into data to identify needs and best practices on Quality Assurance and Risk (e.g., ECRI, Community Needs Assessments, audits/test logs, incident logs).

  • Works collaboratively with SIG, OPS, Finance, Development and Administration functional areas to achieve organizational goals.

  • Participates in training, reporting, and other requirements of various grant supported programs implemented by One Health and partners.

  • Strong ability to communicate and collaborate effectively on issues of Risk and Compliance, with the ability to recognize and communicate urgent and non-urgent issues.

  • Ability to balance and articulate program compliance with practicality and able to describe possible outcomes to influence change in risk prevention and compliance practices.

  • Provides oversight, supports recruitment, training, and direct supervision of the risk and compliance staff.

  • Conducts annual performance appraisals on a timely basis, as scheduled by Human Resources, utilizing current job description as a guide to evaluate performance.

  • Monitors employee attendance and submits electronic payroll sheets. Authorizes vacations and personal days in accordance with staffing needs

  • Adheres to all One Health Policies and Procedures.

  • Leads, develops, cooperates with, and abides by all elements of One Health’s Compliance and Quality Assurance Programs.

  • Provides exceptional customer service and models the mission of One Health when interacting with internal and external stakeholders, promoting a positive image for the health center.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required with or without prior notification.

    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certificates/Licenses:

    Required

  • BS/BA in a field in which data collection, research and analysis are a primary focus

  • Valid driver’s license

    Preferred

  • Current registered nursing license

    Experience:

    Required

  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience

  • One (1) year of experience in Risk and Compliance program implementation and monitoring

  • One (1) year of experience with quality assurance and risk prevention and compliance in daily operations

  • One (1) year of experience facilitating project teams

    Preferred

  • Certificate of completion in reputable Risk and Compliance trainings

  • Certificate of Healthcare Compliance (CHC)

  • Knowledge in Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH), Community Mental Health (CMH), Uniform Data Set (UDS), and other Health Center related requirements and initiatives

  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, or other performance improvement concepts and tools

  • Supervisory experience in the Risk and Compliance Department

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

    The working conditions and environments described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the basic functions of this job. An employee may be exposed to other working conditions and/or environments which are not listed.

  • Work indoors in heat-controlled environment 95% of the time.

  • Moderate noise level consistent with an office environment.

  • Typically, 40-hour workweek.

  • Some evening and weekend hours as needed.

  • Periodic travel to other One Health sites and within Montana as well as regional and national meetings.
