Brief Position Overview

The Health Sciences program in the College of Health Sciences at Montana State University-Northern ( MSUN ) seeks applications for the an academic year (10 month), tenure track Assistant Professor of Health Sciences position, anticipated to begin August 1, 2024.

The College of Health Sciences offers an undergraduate face-to-face degree in Integrated Health Sciences (formerly Health Promotion). This Bachelor of Science degree allows students to concentrate in community health, exercise science, or pre-allied health leading to Certified Health Education Specialist ( CHES ) certification, American College of Sports Medicine ( ACSM ) certification, or allied health graduate school acceptance. The successful candidate will teach and develop coursework in response to departmental needs and in accordance with his/her area(s) of expertise. This position will assist in the oversight of the program, effective teaching of program courses, advising students, student recruitment, program development and evaluation, and accreditation processes. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited, to service on faculty committees, special initiatives, student research, scholarship, and grant activities.

If candidate selected has not already obtained a terminal degree, a terminal degree must be attained prior to the end of the 6th probationary year.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Integrated Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or other Master’s degree with an emphasis in a health-related discipline.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

  • Experience with face-to-face, blended, and online instruction.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

• Doctorate in Integrated Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or other health-related discipline.

• CHES , MCHES , and/or ACSM certifications.

• Demonstrated potential to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

• Demonstrated potential to work within a collaborative university environment, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

• Experience with national programmatic accreditation activities.

• Experience with scholarly contributions to the field and professional development activities.

• Demonstrate a commitment to support the mission of the College.

The Successful Candidate Will

Be part of a well-organized team, that works together to ensure student and faculty success. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with equipment in the state-of the-art Integrated Health Sciences Lab. Training and professional development opportunities, well as mentoring one on one with the Dean of COHS , faculty and other staff in the college. would be provided to the successful candidate. Candidates will work with the Dean of the College of Health Sciences to create a flexible schedule to promote balanced work and home life.

Special Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to be on campus in Havre, MT in person.

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX.
