The Assistant Professor of Nursing position is a full-time, tenure track position in the College of Health Sciences at MSU -Northern. This position requires teaching undergraduate nursing in an ACEN accredited face-to-face Associate of Science ( ASN ) Program and Online Bachelor of Science Completion Program (RN- BSN ). The ASN courses include lecture, clinical instruction, and lab/simulation instruction that are completed face to face. The Online RN- BSN Completion program requires nursing instruction through a distance, online format.

General Statement

The Assistant Professor of Nursing position is a full-time, tenure track position in the College of Health Sciences ( COHS ) at MSU -Northern ( MSUN ). This position requires teaching undergraduate nursing in an ACEN accredited face-to-face Associate of Science ( ASN ) Program and Online Bachelor of Science Completion Program (RN- BSN ). The ASN courses include lecture, clinical instruction, and lab/simulation instruction that are completed face to face. The Online RN- BSN Completion program requires nursing instruction through a distance, online format.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Develop, implement, and evaluate courses in an Associate of Science ( ASN ) program and an Online RN- BSN Completion program.

· Establish and maintain relationships with clinical affiliates.

· Provide lecture and lab/clinical instruction in area of specialty.

· Provide instruction in Simulation Lab.

· Advise students in academic matters.

· Participate in the ongoing development and evaluation of program outcomes and program effectiveness for accrediting bodies.

· Serve on college committees and involvement in campus activities.

· Contribute to the development and evaluation of student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies of the College.

· Demonstrate scholarly activity by continued professional development and active participation in professional organizations.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

· A Master’s degree in Nursing ( MSN ) from a nationally accredited program; OR

· A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing ( BSN ) and currently enrolled in an MSN program and able to complete within 5 years.

· Current, unencumbered Montana Registered Nursing license or Compact state licensure.

· Eligibility for RN licensure in Montana.

· A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in clinical settings.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Excellent critical thinking and clinical judgement skills.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

· Teaching experience in an ASN or BSN program.

· Experience in distance education including web-based course development and implementation.

· Demonstrated high level of initiative and follow through.

· Experience with Simulation Lab instruction.

· Demonstrated potential to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

· Demonstrated commitment to supporting the mission of the College.

The Successful Candidate Will

Be part of a well-organized team, that works together to ensure student and faculty success. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art new simulation equipment, as well utilize new classroom and nursing labs. Training and professional development opportunities, well as mentoring one on one with the Dean of COHS , faculty and other staff in the college. would be provided to the successful candidate. Candidates will work with the Dean of the College of Health Sciences to create a flexible schedule to promote balanced work and home life.

Special Requirements

Be able to be licensed as a RN in the state of Montana and attend clinical experiences with students. The ASN is a face to face program, while RN to BSN is online, successful candidate must be able to be on campus in Havre, MT in person.

Physical Demands

Must be able to exhibit adequate mobility and dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodations, the essential functions of nursing including but not limited to visual, auditory, tactile and olfactory acuity, adequate fine and gross motor skills and the ability to lift 50 pounds

The ASN and RN to BSN program are both nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN ) and the Montana State Board of Nursing through Spring 2029. The Department of Nursing continuously works to improve nursing student’s education.

Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX.
