Brief Position Overview
The US Department of Education NASNTI program provides grants and other assistance to non-tribal institutions that serve American Indians in order to enable the institutions to improve and expand their capacity to serve these students.
The primary goal of the proposed MSU -Northern ( MSUN ) NASNTI Project is to increase the on-time graduation rates of Native American students at both the Bachelors and Associates levels. Its secondary goal is to increase fall-to-spring and fall-to-fall retention rates for Native American students, including first-time, full-time students and those with continuing, transfer, and returning status. These goals will be achieved through the implementation of four interconnected, culturally responsive project objectives: Tutoring, Mentoring, Professional Development, and Family Engagement.

General Statement
The US Department of Education NASNTI program provides grants and other assistance to non-tribal institutions that serve American Indians in order to enable the institutions to improve and expand their capacity to serve these students.
The primary goal of the proposed MSUN NASNTI Project is to increase the on-time graduation rates of Native American students at both the Bachelors and Associates levels. Its secondary goal is to increase fall-to-spring and fall-to-fall retention rates for Native American students, including first-time, full-time students and those with continuing, transfer, and returning status. These goals will be achieved through the implementation of four interconnected, culturally responsive project objectives: Tutoring, Mentoring, Professional Development, and Family Engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Direct the programs that support the grant’s goal to increase on-time graduation and retention rates of Native American students and to provide culturally responsive project objectives: tutoring, mentoring, professional development, and family engagement.
2) Hire, train, supervise and evaluate necessary staff to achieve the goals and project objectives.
3) Serve as the Principle Investigator to track and assess grant activities and objectives and to report per grant guidelines and regulations.
4) Oversee tutoring services provided by the Little River Institute and evaluate the cultural relevance of tutoring methods provided.
5) Serve as a mentor for American Indian students seeking assistance and guidance in academic and administrative matters, such as financial aid, course registration/planning, and other campus life issues.
6) Facilitate a fall orientation experience for American Indian students hosted by the Little River Institute.
7) Serve as co-advisor to the Sweetgrass Society, an American Indian student organization.
8) Co-organize a series of professional development speakers on topics related to American Indian culture, particularly as it relates to academic and social engagement on a college campus.
9) Represent the program to the campus and community; maintain liaisons and collaborations between the NASNTI project and academic departments, libraries, administrative departments, student organizations, students, faculty, and the college community at large.
10) Support collaboration with other student support services on campus; for example, SSS TRiO grant and Tutoring Central
11) Oversee the budget and expenditures in compliance with NASNTI grant.
12) Oversee program compliance with NASNTI grant guidelines and regulations.
13) Oversee the Little River Institute in accordance with the NASNTI grant regulations and guidelines.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
1) Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education, or related field.
2) Experience in higher education, especially in the areas of policies and best practices in
higher education student support programs.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Master’s degree
Experience working in a supervisory role.
Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
Excellent organizational and collaborative skills.
Ability to adapt to changing environments and student needs.
Experience working with Tribal communities.

Title IX Coordinator
The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:
Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;
