Havre Public Schools Paraprofessional in Havre, Montana

Paraprofessionals needed district wide
Hours vary from 6 - 7.5/day

Position Title: Paraprofessional
Department: District Wide
Reports To: Principal

SUMMARY: Assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

 Instructs students at teacher’s request; assists in small group pupil instruction
 Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
 Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
 Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, computers, IPads;
 Supervises students in cafeteria, during recess, on the playground, at school assemblies and on field trips.
 Assists students with personal needs.
 Escorts students in hallways and assists when needed.
 Assists supervisor with clerical type activities, i.e., copying/gathering/preparing materials, record keeping, delivering messages, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students as directed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or its equivalent. Some special training and experience working with children is desirable. MUST: Have Associate's Degree (or 60 college credits) OR Pass Basic Skills test. Test available by contacting Rebecca at 395-8550.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read. Ability to write legibly and coherently. Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic math calculations and apply math concepts in order to assist students from kindergarten through grade 8. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral or written form. Ability to apply common sense/problem solving skills when dealing with students, teachers, administrators and other school personnel.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, administrators and other school personnel. Ability to deal effectively with confidential matters. Ability to follow directions. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to deal with flexible scheduling.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel, bend, reach, grasp, push, and pull as well as perform a variety of similar body movements. The employee is required to possess hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to use school related materials/equipment. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The employee must have the ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and the ability to listen and interpret sounds of students.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity in the particular part of the day and location. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors.
