This position provides primary legal counsel for information technology matters supporting the Department of Administration’s State Information Technology Services Division. The advice and service provided by this position involves: oral collaboration and advice; legal research and writing; participation in policy development; contract review, negotiation, and drafting; involvement in legislative processes, including reviewing and drafting legislation and testifying before legislative committees; and other legal matters as the Department’s Chief Legal Counsel directs. This position will remain open until filled. An initial candidate review will be conducted onWednesday, September 29. What are we looking for? Education and Experience: * Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school and admission to the State Bar of Montana. Two or more years of practical experience preferably associated with information technology industry and general contract work. Eligible to be admitted to practice in federal and state courts, as required. * Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Competencies: * Knowledge of the Federal and Montana Rules of Civil and Appellate Procedure; the Uniform District Court Rules and local rules; the Federal and Montana Rules of Evidence; and the Montana Rules of Professional Conduct. * Knowledge of courtroom and office practice and procedures. * Expertise in contract review, negotiation, and drafting. * Knowledge of the Montana Administrative Procedure Act. * Efficiently analyze a case and conduct legal research and investigations; effective oral and written communication skills; organize and prioritize work to meet required deadlines; establish and maintain effective and good working relationships with others and be customer-service oriented; and exercise good judgment in the analysis, review, and handling of assigned work and cases, from beginning to end.
