The Centralized Services Division of DEQ is currently recruiting for the Chief Financial Officer to lead a team of professionals including Accountants, Accounting Technicians, Budget Analysts, Contracts Officers, and Compliance Officers. The Financial Services Bureau, part of the Centralized Services Division, is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of Montana Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ's) budgeting, accounting, reporting, procurement, and contracting services.This position will develop approaches and solutions to the challenges faced in understanding and managing a diverse and limited budget.
The Chief Financial Officer will coordinate Bureau activities with those of other bureaus, divisions, and departments; provide financial expertise; and implement or direct projects of high priority to the Department. This position works closely with DEQ’s Senior Leaders and must consider a broad spectrum of factors when making decisions and recommendations, including: generally accepted accounting principles, audit findings, state and DEQ policies and procedures, internal controls, complex accounting procedures, risk exposure and mitigation, budget constraints, and executive planning. Additionally, this position will implement employee staff improvement and development plans, ensuring a consistent approach for the growth of all bureau staff, including alignment with department goals.

Minimum requirements include:
Five (5) or more years of job-related experience overseeing financial operations.
Education or experience related to government accounting and Certified Public Accounting preferred.
Supervisory/management experience is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in leading people is required.
