Summary:

Facebook is seeking a Construction Operations Manager to join our Data Center Engineering & Construction (DEC) Team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. Building and operating data centers the "right" way is synonymous with ensuring high uptime, capacity availability and capital conservation. The Construction Operations Manager will have a deep construction knowledge base spanning from design, to supply chain to field logistics and sequencing, commissioning and closeout. The position will develop deep partnerships with all levels across the organization to gather and understand technical considerations, operational and financial information, contract delivery methods, change management strategies, and retrofit considerations in new build and in operational facilities; leverage knowledge obtained to optimize the program. In addition, the position will develop industry partnerships to enhance the impact of the Infra Data Center team across our fleet of existing, currently under construction and future, state of the art data centers globally. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, state of the art Construction Delivery program and work on exciting data center projects throughout the globe, in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

Required Skills:

  1. Manage a small team supporting the ongoing operations of ICM North American Delivery portfolio focused on consistent, predictable execution: operational consistency of approach between matrix team of Delivery and Technical Pillars (Project Controls, Safety, Quality, Pre-construction), change management of reference design evolutions across the project portfolio, change management of team processes

  2. Manage a small team supporting the project launch phase of projects

  3. Consistent evaluations of completed project phases for identification of improvement opportunities

  4. Support NA Construction Director in setting the strategic vision for the site teams and interface with a wide variety of internal and external teams to achieve cross-program goals

  5. Manage the ongoing operations of diverse program level initiatives benefitting the ICM New Build Delivery portfolio, including supply chain knowledge management. Examples are DE&I Playbooks

  6. Identify, prioritize and execute on strategic initiatives against annual priorities of the company, organization and team layers and ICM’s North Star principles within the ICM New Build Delivery team: partner with internal and external cross functional stakeholders to understand current opportunities for process optimization and create strategy, prioritize based on impact and stakeholder capacity, execute on creation of new processes

  7. Support staff planning across Geographies

  8. Manage onboarding and training content for delivery team

  9. Partner with existing stakeholders to create embedment approaches, managing pilot programs in preconstruction phases as need required to facilitate embedment

  10. Provide construction subject matter expertise within the program

  11. Mentor staff across the topics of planning, resource management, program level risk assessments, etc. to contribute to a high functioning team

  12. Provide regular communications around status of each of the above

  13. Proactively resolve business and operational issues with partners

  14. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including General Contractors, Trade Contractors, Suppliers, Design, Operations, Legal to produce strategic long-term partnerships

  15. Build robust communication channels and cultivate relationships to influence the strategy of partner organizations

  16. Partner broadly with external partners critical to the program’s success to influence their strategy and execution in supporting ICMs mission. Provide structured feedback on their performance and partner to improve and optimize as needed

  17. Occasional travel to datacenter work location and Fremont, CA offices will be expected (approx. 20% travel)

  18. Promote and model an attitude of continuous improvement, partnership, and teamwork in behaviors and communications

  19. Promote and model an attitude of openness to giving, seeking, and receiving 360-degree feedback

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent degree

  2. Minimum of twenty (20) years professional experience in construction and project planning of complex, mission critical projects

  3. Experience with various contract delivery methodologies, legal considerations, IP, and commercial terms

  4. Expertise in data center engineering, design, commissioning and operations and ground up new build site development and construction as well as retrofit work in live environments

  5. Experience multitasking and reprioritize on a frequent basis to support a rapidly growing business model

  6. Communication and presentation skills

  7. Effective negotiation skills and experience providing solutions to complex problems under pressure

  8. Experience in large scale construction management (excess of $500M/yr)

  9. Expertise in design and construction supply chain and processes

  10. LEAN Basics knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree in engineering or business administration

  2. Experience in a variety of construction delivery models (design/build, IPD, etc.)

  3. BIM 360 software experience

  4. Experience in Capital Budget Management
