Job Description

Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. 8 years relevant work experience. BS/BA preferred.

We’re looking for Data Scientists to help shape the development of core capabilities to drive improvements in hardware quality, reliability, and efficiency as well as providing operational insights for impact and root cause analysis. We’re strongly focused on supporting the high scale use cases of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The Data Scientist will get to work with Hardware telemetry data at cloud scale enabling measurement & alerting on key hardware quality KPI trends, as well as using machine learning to predict hardware failures before they happen and improve the OCI service offerings and customer experience.

A day in the life…

  • Drive clarity and solve ambiguous, challenging business problems using data-driven approaches.

  • Apply your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how hardware quality and reliability can be improved.

  • Leverage data to understand product performance and to identify improvement opportunities

  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to solve problems and identify trends/opportunities and to turn data science prototypes into robust, reliable solutions.

  • Use machine learning, data mining, statistical techniques and others to create actionable, meaningful, and scalable solutions that drive increased hardware quality and reliability which powers all OCI services and On Premise systems.

  • Propose and guide the framework of data analysis to drive business insight and facilitate decisions. Establish standard methodologies for data science including modeling, coding, analytics, and experimentation.

  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes to boost team productivity, such as model development, model validation and model implementation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors/Masters Degree with 4+ years (or PhD with 2+ years) of experience in the following areas:

  • Data or analytics work.

  • Complex quantitative analysis and working with distributed (i.e. Spark, Hive, Hadoop or similar databases) or complex datasets.

  • Experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, MATLAB).

  • Applied statistics or experimentation (i.e. A/B testing) in an industry setting.

  • 2+ years of experience communicating the results of analyses to leadership teams to influence the strategy

  • Experience working collaboratively with Engineering, Product Management, and/or Data Engineering.

Preferred Qualification

  • 7+ years of experience working in an analytics organization.

  • Experience leading large projects in the tech industry.

  • Experience with cloud computing fundamentals and building applications using cloud managed services.
