Job Duties (narrative summary):

This position monitors, maintains and administers the database servers at Fish, Wildlife & Parks to ensure that the ability of the agency to collect and utilize data is provided to the maximum extent possible. To complete this role, the position must ensure that database standards are established and conformed to, security is maintained, and backup and disaster recovery procedures are in place and followed. This position spends a portion of their time performing various aspects of software development: requirements gathering and analysis, design, coding, testing and documentation for any assigned projects and programs. This position is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of the FWP relational database environment.

The Database Administrator is part of the DevOps Bureau. The DevOps Bureau is responsible for promoting communication, collaboration and integration between software developers, information technology operations professionals, testers, managers, product owners, business analysts and reaching across functional borders. Staff within DevOps are dedicated to the study of building, evolving and operating rapidly changing resilient systems at scale. This bureau oversees quality assurance, systems security and manages the Software Development Lifecyle with automated tools. FWP has a dozen enterprise-class databases that contain more than two billion records. DevOps monitors, maintains and administers the database servers to ensure that the ability of the agency to collect and utilize data is provided to the maximum extent possible. To complete this role, the bureau must ensure that database standards are established and conformed to, security is maintained, and backup and disaster recovery procedures are in place and followed.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field to include education/training in Programming languages, MS Windows, Linux, database administration, SQL*Plus, MS Office, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL and at least 5 years of job-related experience to include Oracle Server Database experience. Education/training in Java, data modeling tools, Networking, Storage Area Networking, WildFly are desirable. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
