St. Peters Health Early Childhood Assistant Teacher (Preschool) - Pete's Place, PRN in Helena, Montana

JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): This position is responsible for supervision of Preschool children ages 3 to 6 years old and requires flexibility to work in all classrooms based off the needs of the center.

Under general supervision and according to specific procedures, this position assists the Lead Teacher (ECLT) in the responsibility of planning and executing classroom activities, assisting in the maintenance of a safe, healthy and stimulating classroom environment, providing constant supervision of children at all times including planning time, outside play, mealtime, and nap time. This position maintains sensitivity to the children’s individual needs and responds to those needs appropriately and quickly by guiding the behavior of children in a positive and effective ways. This position maintains the highest level of professionalism at all times. This position encourages experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, and socialization to promote further learning and thinking. This position helps and assists the ECLT prepare the classroom environment and materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and learning experiences. This position helps in assessing individual and group needs, attending to specific interests, strengths and concerns. This position coordinates with the ECLT when indicated, developing a collaborative approach that benefits all children in classroom. This position monitors for and reports child abuse. This position attends and participates in trainings and appropriate professional development activities. This position attends and participates in meetings. This position engages in ongoing self-assessment about job performance. This position helps in assisting with cleaning duties. This position follows State Licensing Regulation, Health Department and Fire Marshal Standards, CACFP requirements and STARS to Quality Standards for our current Level.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of principles of childhood growth and development required. Demonstrated ability to apply Early Childhood Development in daily activities and adapt to the individual needs of children required. Demonstrated ability for decision and problem-solving abilities required. Demonstrated ability to understand the ECLT routine when it comes to delivering a lesson plan and running the class in the event that the ECLT is absent on a particular day required. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, families and community resources required. Demonstrated ability to maintain respectful relations and communication with staff, families, children and community required. Demonstrated ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment required. Demonstrated ability to respond to events happening at all times in classroom, and outdoor play areas required. Demonstrated ability to receive oversight and guidance from an onsite Lead Teacher or Director.

EDUCATION: This position must be at least 16 years old. High School Diploma, GED equivalent or HiSET preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: American Heart Association: Heart Saver CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required to be completed in first 30 days of employment and to be kept current thereafter. Current on the Montana Early Childhood Project: Practitioner Registry within 15 days of hire required. Infant Safety Essentials within 30 days and Health and Safety Required Professional Development within 90 days of hire required. Complete mandatory 16 hour annual training and keep current all St. Peter’s Health and State Child Care Licensing required immunizations required.

Aptitudes: Demonstrates ability to handle multiples tasks and stressors effectively and efficiently. Demonstrates genuine interest and enjoyment of small children and the ability to stay calm in all situations and to respond to children in a quiet, reassuring manner. Demonsrates ability to exercise good judgement and critical thinking skills to ensure the safety and well being of children.
