    Immediate opening for an Elementary School Secretary at Smith Elementary School

Helena School District # 1 has an opening for a full-time 8 hour per school day 10-month per year Elementary Secretary at Smith Elementary School who provides administrative support to the building principal.

At Helena Public schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As the Elementary School Secretary, you contribute to this mission as the first point of contact to assist students, parents, and members of the school community. You will work as part of a team serving 8,000 students at 18 campuses across Helena.

Some of what you will do:

  • Apply problem solving skills and service recovery to facilitate resolution of issues between parents, schools, and transportation.

  • Answer routine telephone inquiries regarding school programs and procedures.

  • Develop and generate documents, agendas, reports, letters, memos, newsletters, minutes, etc. utilizing a variety of computer applications programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power School, Prezi).

  • Oversee office organization and scheduling for meetings, special events, employee in-service training and district committees.

  • Maintain employee leave and payroll records.

  • Order supplies and materials.

  • Prepare monthly bills for principal approval and provide status of budget.

To become part of this dedicated team, you need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year of secretarial experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.

  • Proficient in keyboarding and utilizing MS Office Suite.

  • Skills to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills to work with diverse audiences.

  • Skills to perform a multitude of tasks while monitoring priorities.

Essential functions of the position include the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation. Current level salary range is $17.98 to $19.24 per hour depending on applicable relevant work experience as determined by the District and includes a comprehensive benefit package consisting of paid sick and vacation leave, personal days, school calendar related days, health benefit plan and retirement. Salary amounts for the 2023-2024 school year are undetermined at this time. Salaries will be adjusted acordingly.
