JOB SUMMARY: The Emergency Department Tech is responsible for the basic management of patients in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists with patient care, based on individual patient needs, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Other duties include, but are not limited to, vital signs, EKGs, specimen collection, appropriate documentation in the EMR, set up for and assist in select procedures (pelvic exams, laceration repairs, I&D of abscess, etc.), stock rooms and areas with supplies as needed, and perform some procedures (stitch/staple removal, ear wax removal, phlebotomy, splinting, etc.) as trained. The Emergency Department Tech is responsible for sustaining a fluid consistent flow by rooming and discharging patients as needed. The Emergency Department Tech should have good communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: 1 Year of experience in emergency department preferred. Knowledge of safety measures is required. SECURE training required within 6 months of hire date and an annual refresher course.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: CNA, EMT, AEMT or Paramedic certification, medical terminology preferred. Current BLS Certification required.
Aptitudes: Ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Able to read and write in order to complete medical reports and basic arithmetic is required.
